I offer this as one of my all time favorite recordings based solely on the Verdi. Can La forza del destino possibly be done any better than this?!?!? London Symphony in top form and great sound from Mercury engineers.
The Rossini, played by the scrappy Minnesota group, are not even in the same league.

The earlier mono recording, later supplanted by the well known stereo. Some prefer this to the stereo remake. Previously available only on a "pirate" or "bootleg" CD issue mastered from an LP (poorly I might add), this is its first official CD release. To be honest, I've never really liked either of these "famous" recordings. Orchestral execution is poor and the close up sound accentuates that point.
