SAR Class1 4R (4-8-2) #1723 a mixed traffic locomotive built for SAR operations within the Natal region sits at the Talana Museum. The 14R's were built in the 1913 and upgraded to the appearance seen here in the 1930's. As mentioned the 14R's were mixed traffic locomotives built for the grades of the Natal region. These locomotives saw service up until 1983. #1723 was a lucky survivor as it continued service with a local mining company before arriving here in Dundee, KZN.
I was starting to fall asleep in class while the teacher was out of the room. The students started singing "Rock-A-Bye Baby" at me in Spanish, so I took their picture to get them to stop. The teacher is just coming back to the classroom in the back, wondering what all the noise is about.

Black glass baby bell flowers have been wire wrapped to a silver Eiffel Tower charm. The flowers and Tower hang freely from a silver round hoop. A small black and white gingham ribbon has been tied to the top of the hoop to add another touch of femininity!
1st life drawing class in 10 years - day one.
5 minute sketches
Review by instructor:
1) Must complete the whole figure!
2) Use another medium - pencil vs. marker for more precise capture - no hairy teddy bears - clean lines!
3) work on odd angle poses like #1, 2, 3 - no perspective cheating - proportions stay the same - observe relationships between body parts
4) study muscle + bone structure for better understanding of the pose
I signed up for a 7 week class at A Work of Heart that's doing projects in and inspired by the book "Art at the Speed of Life" by Pam Carriker. This is a close up of one of my 6 pieces from the first class. All 6 pieces are the backgrounds that we'll be using for the projects in the other sessions. I'm really excited to be learning new techniques and letting myself go and be messy - SO not me! And I'm using ORANGE and LIME GREEN!!! Also so not me. So much fun, though.
