A huge thank you to the Los Angeles Fire Department and all the mutual aid providers who risked their lives to protect life and property during the Springs Fire. Your bravery and hard work is appreciated.

 

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Los Angeles. It may be unofficially referred to as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

 

The Los Angeles Fire Department is currently organized into several Bureaus of Operations and 2 Divisions of Operations: The South Division(Division 2), and the North Division(Division 3). Each Bureau is commanded by a Deputy Chief. Each Division is commanded by an Assistant Chief, who commands a total of 8 Battalions each. Each Battalion, a grouping or district covered by approximately 6 Fire Stations, is commanded by a Battalion Chief. The LAFD's 2 Divisions and 16 Battalions command a total of 106 Fire Stations, located throughout the city.

All LAFD Engines are Triple Combination apparatus, meaning they can pump water, carry hose, and have a water tank. Commonly called, "triples" by firefighters, these powerful fire engines are the core of the city's fire defense system. LAFD engines are designed specifically for the diverse needs of the City of Los Angeles.

A whole train of nothing but empty DODX flatcars had this SD up from and a lone helper on the rear.

Back here on the NPBL, NS typically give the belt line crews either a GP38 to use or a Dash 9 as of recent years. I always thought it was a bit silly for the belt line to use a dash 9 with they only used it for switching. So it came to my surprised when I came to Berkeley yard and saw a SD40-2 working the yard. Hey it make a lot more sense the using a dash 9 to work the yard.

A trio of EMD locos leads this NS train of autoracks.

Southbound CSX train Q-101-21 is approaching the signals at CPI 074-"Ben" interlocking just north of Watseka, Illinois on June 21st, 2016 at 4:47 pm with CSX AC60CW #689 & ES40DC #5433 and 22 cars.

NS 273 after working portlock for only 20 minutes, is ready to depart and is waiting for clearance out of the yard.

A 2nd sketch done before the term ended during the class and the new term will start in July.

A Norfolk Southern empty hopper train has departed from Lamberts Point on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. Seen here going through Portlock road in south Norfolk, Virginia, the train would round the corner to find a vehicle parked next to the tracks. I would wetness the air being dumped and the train coming to a screeching halt. Everyone was reported ok.

Hanging out at Carney's Crossing, Shelly was making sure I knew there was a train coming. She didn't know I was going to take a picture of her and the train.

After Amtrak 186 passes, a CSX loaded coal train gets the right of way to continue heading east down to Newport News Piers, seen here pacing route 60.

UP power mixed with NS GE and EMD road units and a GP.

While two different NS 070 sit in the morning October breeze, I was able to capture them in the middle of Portlock yard to really show off the crazy curve track in the yard in south Norfolk, VA.
