I took this photo 3 months before the recent Grenfell Tower fire.
My intention was to show these older buildings being re-purposed and receiving a new life as city centre housing. Something they seemed to be doing rather well.
I thought at the time the cladding uplifted otherwise asethically bland buildings. The block in the distance (Allied Place) has cladding installed that acts as insulation in addition to its aesthetic qualities.
Since the Grenfell Tower fire cladding all over the country has come under get scrutiny, along with the Building Regulations allowing them to be fitted.

It shows reconstructions in “recombinant” and “non-recombinant” state transitions on a set of 5000 plausible trees by using the symmetric CTMC model for discrete character reconstruction with BEAST. Recombinant sequences are shown as thick branches, while asterisks at the tips of the MCC tree show sequences that share a breakpoint at position 4924. Branch lengths only help the visualization of transition events and are not proportional to either quantity of events or substitution per sites.

The Southwestern Bell Building was designed by architect Irving R. Timlin in 1929-30 and reflects a blend of Chicago School skyscraper and Spanish Mission-style design. The 14-story, brick-clad skyscraper features elaborate ground floor window and door surrounds similar to Spanish Baroque ecclesiastical architecture and geometric designs of colored tile on the spandrels of the central bays.
This is the new Cardiff City Stadium, owned by the football club, and leased to the Cardiff Blues. The old ground, Ninian Park is opposite and decrepit. I've a few photos of that to add when I get some time.
