For this shot I used only one flash and placed to light my model's face from approximately 30 degrees above and slightly to his right. It was totally dark in the studio, only with the model light on.

A 3D map of downtown Los Angeles in the 1930s and 1940s. At the Becoming Los Angeles exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History.
This model is meant to give the blind an impression of the layout of Siegen. But it's also interesting for others to see the old city at a glance.
January 10, 2019 - This model of Jerusalem as it looked during the Second Temple period was originally located on the grounds of the Holyland Hotel and it was relocated to the Israel Museum in 2006 when it was also updated for inaccuracies.
"The Second Temple Jerusalem Model recreates the city of 66 CE at the height of its glory; the eve of the great revolt of the Jews against the Romans. The city then stretched over some 450 acres.
The model, measuring some 1,000 square meters, was created by Professor Avi-Yonah, a leading scholar specializing in ancient Jerusalem. Avi-Yona's reconstruction is based on descriptions from Jewish sources, particularly the Mishnah, and the writings of the contemporary historian Flavius Josephus. He also relied on archaeological finds from Jerusalem and from other Roman cities.
At the heart of this impressive city stands the Temple Mount. Kings who built the city, notably the Hasmoneans and their successors, and King Herod and his descendants, were greatly influenced by the Greco-Roman culture. This is clearly reflected in the style of the buildings, and in the layout of the streets; in the holy precinct at the top of the hill; the public water facilities, and other dedicatory monumental buildings as well as in the sports and entertainment facilities.
A closer look reveals the uniquely Jewish character of Jerusalem. First, there is only one sacred precinct - the Temple Mount - with a single temple, to one God. Second, the city has no sculptures, or reliefs depicting human figures and animals, in accordance with the second of the Ten Commandment: Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
The magnificence of the city as it replicated in the model did not last for long. In 66 CE the Great Revolt against the Romans broke out, and in 70 CE, after five years of fighting, the city was destroyed and the Temple burnt down." Taking a picture of a model of downtown Los Angeles in the 1930s and 1940s. At the Becoming Los Angeles exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History.
This project was started in 2002 and I have come back to it several times throughout the years. Google Earth has helped tremendously as a reference; so has Emporis.com - providing most of the building data I need to make the structures as close to scale as possible.

For this shot I used only one flash, modified with a softbox, placed to light my model's face from approximately 30 degrees above and slightly to his right. Also, I used a wireless trigger/receiver.

This is a model of the city centre of Rotterdam with a number of projects that will be build in the coming years. Unlike most other cities in the Netherlands Rotterdam does not have an old city centre. That was almost completely destoyed during a bombing in May 1940. After the war Rotterdam was rebuilt in modern style.
