In Poland's third-largest city, buses play a vital role in the local public transport network, with numerous bus lines serving all parts of the metropolitan area.

A particularity that is to be noticed is MPK Wrocław's unofficial express bus network (or rather accelerated network), composed of four lines denominated by letters (A, D, K and N). Line N runs from next to the main railway station up to the easternmost part of the Psie Pole neighborhood, located some 10 kilometers northeast of Wrocław's center.

MPK 8517 is one of 120 units of the type, the Citaro C2 G being by a margin the most common vehicle in MPK's fleet. On the photo, it is seen leaving the historic part of Psie Pole, which is by Polish standards in an excellent orderly condition.

Anticipating the introduction of an all-day 15-minute frequency on the meter-gauge RE train from Bern to Solothurn, engineering works were required to double-track and renovate most of the section between the stations of Jegenstorf and Lohn-Lüterkofen.

As a consequence, buses were replacing trains on the aforementioned section, with most vehicles being provided by the specialized bus rental company Intertours, along with a couple of RBS (the railway operator)’s own vehicles.

Pictured above is one of Intertours’ few brand-new buses, this one dating from 2021. With the exception of the now-retired ex-Vienna Citaro C2 G, all Intertours buses are completely white in order to maintain a neutral and quickly customizable image depending on which services are provided.
