Houston.....We have Rotation!

I had moved just a few miles to the west of Hwy 183. Just south of the I-80 Elm Creek Interchange. In case this cell did develop a tornado, I wanted quick access to the north.

In the perfect location for this developing cell. Forming wall cloud on the southwest part of this storm. True storm chasing eye candy!

Today is the day we celebrate the common cinnamon bun in Sweden.

2019 one photo each day

I baked and iced the warm buns...but, did not make them. They were made by a neighbour from Julie Van Rosendaal's recipe and given to us for Christmas. Sadly, they've been hiding in the freezer until my oven got fixed.. which it finally did on Valentine's Day.

Yesterday I got them out and baked them.....mmmm.... lovely and sticky and gooey....

and then, I made drizzling consistency icing and slathered them with it as well. If I'm going to eat sugary stuff I may as well make it count.!!

The guy that brought me diesel also brought me this...

The neighbour dropped off some baking for us. Before the family could eat it, I got to photograph it.

Meanwhile, in my kitchen... cinnamon buns just came out of the oven :)

Happy New Year!

We started the day with these. Yum!

7. Makes Your Mouth Water

But the feast can begin..

*****Explored**********

Photo originally taken in 2012 for a photography class still-life assignment when my daffodils were blooming. (Lots of tulips and daffodils ended up in my still life assignments.) Enhanced and posted in 2018.

I don't have a good place in my home to take still life photos. So I cleared my kitchen counter, covered it with a piece of mat board (not visible here below the placemat.) I set up another piece of mat board behind it. I chose one with a faux texture for interest. I was doing this late at night, so I needed a good light source. Above the sink there is a 3-ring florescent light which worked for some images. For others, I retrieved one of my husband's trouble lights from the garage and placed it on the counter to the right. Because it has a metallic shield on one side, I could turn it for more or less light.

Creating still life arrangements:

At first, I created very complicated arrangements, but I wasn't happy with any of the resulting photos. So I went to Google images to search for still life ideas. I discovered that all the ones I liked were rather simple with 1 to 6 carefully arranged objects.

Among my own favorite images is simply one pear and another is of a horizontal row of 5 pears. This one is a little more complicated than most, but not too "busy." I used mostly what I already had at home, but purchased a few clear-glass items at a dollar store to use as props and shopped for some fresh fruit and vegetables, choosing them for color and shape.

See my still life album. The first 10 images were taken for the photo class mentioned in the 1st paragraph above. (I have plenty more from the class, not yet posted.)

My local community college offers free tuition to senior citizens.for credited courses. The same instructor taught a continuing education course and a credited course in digital photography. The credited course was free. Registration is also free (requires a HS or college transcript.)

The only restriction is that seniors have to wait until the last day of class registration and can only join classes that are not filled. (I was never turned away.) I had the option of auditing or taking classes for credit. I chose credit because I knew I would work harder if I would be expected to complete all assignments and pass tests.

Check out your local community college to see if something similar is offered.

"Avoid fruit and nuts. You are what you eat." - Jim Davis

-----

Did a test run on these today; I'm planning on gifting these to someone for Christmas but seeing as I've never made them before and wasn't sure how bacon would factor in, I figured a test run that I force all my neighbours to eat was called for.

I used bacon bits this time, thinking that the time it would take for bacon strips to bake would be more than the time the pastry would take and that seemed complicated.

I haven't received feedback yet, so fingers crossed they're well received.

Recipe for those interested:

Ingredients

Pastry:

2 cups of flour

2 tablespoons of sugar

1/4 cup of cold butter

1 cup of milk

Cinnamon Topping:

1/3 cup of soft butter

1 cup of packed brown sugar

1 tablespoon of cinnamon

1/3 cup of real already cooked bacon bits

Vanilla Glaze:

1 1/2 cup of icing sugar

2 1/2 tablespoons of milk

1/4 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

1 teaspoon of melted butter

-----

Directions for the pastry:

1. Combine flour, sugar, and baking poweder.

2. Cut in butter.

3. Stir in milk.

4. Knead.

5. Roll out to a 12" square.

Direction for the Cinnamon Topping:

1. Combine the butter, sugar and cinnamon.

2. Spread topping on the rolled out dough.

3. Sprinkle with bacon bits.

4. Roll up the dough and cut into 12 pieces.

Place in greased muffin tin and bake for 18-23 minutes at 400F.

Directions for glaze:

1. Mix all ingredients and stir well.

Once cinnamon rolls are done, let cool then drizzle or thickly coat the rolls with the glaze (up to you; and how much of a sugar rush you'd like).

Enjoy!

Hope everyone has had a good day.

The cinnamon bun's Day is today...

I don't normally post photos of food, but I thought I'd do it just this one time. Perhaps as a tip of the hat to my long time Flickr contact, outdoorPDK (Philip) who often displays photos of delicious foods.

In any event, I enjoy cooking and baking from time to time. In this case, I made up a nice fresh batch of cinnamon buns with my own yeast-raised sweet dough. Needless to say, these are a family favourite. and while very tasty, probably a little too self indulgent to make often.

Photo taken with the Olympus OM-1 and M.Zuiko 7-14mm f/2.8 Pro.

My wife had a day off today, I had to go to work, unfortunately.

But when I came home, Wednesday in week 52, she had been in "bakery mode" an made 52 (!!!) Cinnamon buns...

I love baking and today 4.10.2017 it's Cinnamon bun day. What a great reason to bake or at least to eat some cinnamon buns :)
