Reds pitcher Aaron Harang was born on May 9, 1978 in San Diego, California. On this July night, he lasted only 4-1/3 innings and was responbsible for 6 earned runs and the loss.

Game Six of the 1975 World Series ended in the 12th inning when Boston Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk homered off Cincinnati reliver Pat Darcy. That little dinger is on every list of Top Five Historic Homers, often sitting at No. 1. You've seen the footage. But did you notice that after the ball clanked off the foul pole, Reds left fielder George Foster caught it on the fly and jogged into the clubhouse. There's a book about the game - called "Game Six" - that says Foster kept the ball and later sold it. I asked him today: Didn't anybody ask for the ball? Did Fisk ask for it? The Hall of Fame? Foster said nobody ever asked for the ball, not that night, not later. He said there weren't "collectors" back then, so it was just a ball, not a HISTORIC ball. He said he later gave the ball away. I asked him when he gave the ball away, and he said "two or three leap years ago." ... Yeah, I kinda got the impression he was just blowing smoke up my question. Well, the guy is at every game, selling autographs for $10, so maybe I'll harass him again next game. -- Goodyear, Ariz., March 17, 2013

Baseball has lost a lot of its lustre in recent years in Toronto. The Jays aren't doing well, there was a players strike several years ago, plus pro basketball and soccer (football) have all stole some of the sports entertainment market share. It being a weeknight, Skydome was about 1/3 to 1/2 empty.
