A trabucco on the shoreline of Fossacesia, along the Trabocchi Coast (Abruzzo, Italy). There is a debate about the origins of these rudimentary marine constructions. According to many sources they were invented by Phoenicians in ancient times as ingenious fishing machine and later improved over the time. A trabucco is simply a hut on piles set straightly on the sea which many time ago let fishermen to catch fish without venturing offshore, avoiding the pitfalls to come across pirats or bad weather. The construction is made by timber, the Aleppo, pine precisely.
