M.E. Awareness Week was established by patient advocates and is focused on May 12th, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who was believed to have suffered with M.E.
From 1857 Nightingale found herself often disabled by poor health, which some suggest may well have been Chronic Fatigue Syndrome(CFS).
As a result, Nightingale now has been adopted as a kind of patron saint for this under-studied disease.
CFS sufferers commemorate her birthday as a kind of rallying point; their own lamp in the dark.
Maria is a victim of that illness herself, together with many others here at Flickr.
Therefore there is (for the third time already) a theme with 'blue as the main colour' on Saturday May 8.

Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a complication of pulmonary embolism and a major cause of chronic PH leading to right heart failure and death. Lung ventilation/perfusion scintigraphy is the screening test of choice; a normal scan rules out CTEPH. In the case of an abnormal perfusion scan, a high-quality pulmonary angiogram is necessary to confirm and define the pulmonary vascular involvement and prior to making a treatment decision. PH is confirmed with right heart catheterisation, which is also necessary for treatment determination. In addition to chronic anticoagulation therapy, each patient with CTEPH should receive treatment assessment starting with evaluation for pulmonary endarterectomy, which is the guideline recommended treatment. For technically inoperable cases, PH-targeted medical therapy is recommended (currently riociguat based on the CHEST studies), and balloon pulmonary angioplasty should be considered at a centre experienced with this challenging but potentially effective and complementary intervention.

With numb hands, chronic pain, too many dental appointments and much to do i'm in need of a good rest so am not posting much at the moment.
Thank you everyone so much for sharing your quality photos which is a great way to see and keep in touch with the wget-me-notsorld from home as well as with each other.. Also thank you for your kind comments and favours which are much valued. I am not able to take on any more members to follow or to post to groups. I prefer not to receive invites to groups.
Concerned about Callie's seemingly chronic diarrhea, I took her to the vet today along with a stool sample. She's been acting quite healthy except for the diarrhea and weight loss, but the vet suspected a thyroid problem that was subsequently confirmed by blood work that also showed concerning kidney values. None of this is immediately life threatening but would be if left untreated, so we will start with iodine treatment to eliminate the thyroid tumor and then introduce a special diet along with nightly fluid therapy to reduce the danger of kidney failure.
Kidney issues were a major feature of the last year of my Angus (shown below), who passed away at the age of 20 in 2015. The nightly fluid treatment is sometimes welcomed by an aging cat, as it can actually give them some pleasure and relief. The main thing with Callie is to give her as comfortable a final 2-3 years as possible.

"Forget ME not" was created to raise awareness about M.E (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) - an extremely debilitating, life changing, complex chronic disease that has received shamefully low attention and fundings for research for decades. Patients are being disbelieved, misunderstood and dismissed. There is no treatment and no cure.
Over 20 million people across the globe are affected and in the aftermaths of COVID this number is quickly rising (many Long Covid patients end up being diagnosed with M.E).
During our events in May we will create awareness, break the stigma and fundraise for the "Open Medicine Foundation" who conduct research into M.E, Long Covid, Fibromyalgia and related chronic conditions. They are a registered, US based non-profit organization that has been around for over 10 years.

Living with chronic health issues is hard and that hit home Thursday evening. I went to go out to chase the aurora, but as I was driving, I became too sick and too weak to keep going. Looking back it was the Lord’s grace to get me back home as I would not have made it and the aurora came much much later than expected. However, there was a second chance of the aurora the following night. I decided to take a chance and this time my wife was able to join me. The conditions were far less favorable as it looked like we would be completely clouded over, so we prayed. We prayed that the clouds would clear and the aurora would hold up long enough. It was supposed to peak between 3-6pm, but instead it peaked between 7-8pm when we were there. The clouds cleared almost entirely and I shot this image just minutes before the moon rose and the aurora faded. The Lord literally made all of this possible! It truly was a redemptive night and one I am very thankful to have had!

we saw that juvenile humpack from a far distance breaching multiple times. by the time we got there he breached at least 20 times and gave us at least 2 other full breaches before leaving with a deep dive, Monterey Bay, CA

No, this isn't our trash. This is a trash dump on one of SCCG's favorite landowner's property. This was a Southport Chronic Cavers Grotto Sinkhole Clean Up Project.

En réalité, je photographie souvent les chiens et les animaux, plus généralement, mais si l’image n’est pas conforme à mon postulat, je la garde pour moi. Sauf aujourd’hui.
A Madagascar, il y a de nombreux chiens errants. Certains vivent dans de mauvaises conditions sanitaires et sont souvent squelettiques en raison d’une sous-alimentation chronique.
Si on souhaite voir des chiens un peu moins faméliques, ils faut se rendre sur les marchés et plus particulièrement à proximité des boucheries, où il y a toujours un os ou un bout de gras à glaner. Sur la photo ci-dessus, la boucherie est fermée. Les chiens montent la garde, à leur manière, devant la porte, en attendant l’ouverture.

Ambalavao (Madagascar) -This scene is the exception that proves the rule, according to which at least one human element must be in my photos. In reality, I often photograph dogs and animals, more generally, but if the image does not conform to my postulate, I keep it to myself. Except today.
There are many stray dogs in Madagascar. Some live in poor sanitary conditions and are often skeletal due to chronic malnutrition.
If you want to see dogs a little less starving, you have to go to the markets and more particularly near the butcher shops, where there is always a bone or a piece of fat to glean. In the photo above, the butcher shop is closed. The dogs stand guard, in their own way, in front of the door, waiting for it to open.

She's a silent warrior. The face of chronic pain few understand. The face of going to work, even though her body is screaming at her, and putting on a mask that only others who know pain can see through. It's wearing a smile, telling everyone, "I'm good! How are you?" Even though she's near the point of vomiting, she's hurting so badly. It's coming home and letting a little of the fatigue and pain show through, but still not letting them know how bad it is as she helps with dinner or chores. Because they don't understand. It's taking what she has for pain finally, only for it to barely work, and all she can do is curl up in bed and try to sleep. She can hear the messages coming in from her other half that's 1000 miles away, but can't answer because it's so bad by now that her hands feel like someone is shattering them with a hammer. It's covering her face with a pillow to scream in, because she shifted wrong trying to get comfortable and instead triggered a stronger wave of pain and now she's begging any diety listening for it to stop. Going to the ER is a joke. They blow her off... make her wait an ungodly amount of time because "you're not doing your part and getting it treated" or they think she's a pain pill chaser. So, instead, she stays home and hopes it'll stop. It's wanting someone with her to try and comfort her, but hating putting anyone through watching her deal with this and not be able to help. So she does it alone. And puts on that same brave face in the morning to do it all over again.
