I like to put a little something together for my kids and the neighborhood kids every year to give them a chance to get together and celebrate. Cookie and gingerbread house decorating is always a fun activity. I like to cover the kids sized tables in colorful butcher paper because it makes everything else really pop. Candy always makes a fun and colorful tablescape so there isn't much work in the decoration department. Just a few fun glass jars to display it and you're done! I used sheetsof colorful scrapbook paper as the placemats for each kid adding another layer of color and fun. The gingerbread flavored sodas area fun touch to add to tables too.

PHOTOGRAPH OF A GROUP OF MOTHERS AND CHILDREN CHRISTMAS 1954
Nothing, at time of compilation, was known about this subject. It was thought to be of a Christmas event featuring village mothers and children, from the presence of crackers, balloons and foliage decorating the walls. One adult, right-hand end, is recognised as Mrs. Mary Thomas (see HA30), once a teacher at the village school, and some of the children feature in school photographs of the time in the database. During the compilation of this database in 2003, Roy Arnott asked Mary for further information regarding the subject matter of the print, to each other’s astonishment, Mary said she had never seen the photo before!, so, almost 50yrs later, Mary has a copy, and the database has its information thanks to Mary and Ciss Carpenter! The venue is the Recreation Room, at Huntsham Court, given on special occasions to villagers for functions, weddings etc. before the advent of the village hall. The wall fixture on the left, confirmed by Ciss, is a type of gas light with a mantle housed on a ‘goose-neck’, back-plated type fitting, with a piped supply fixed to the lime-washed stone wall by a pipe hook or ‘crampet’. It is known that there was never, and has not been to date, a mains gas supply to the local area. There was, confirmed by Harold Pratt seen in the picture, an acetylene plant providing
a gas supply for lighting purposes to the Court. From Nina Evans. (See HA16) See also HA112
