Peter Faneuil's massive slab. We wonder all the time--or we should--what the Founding Fathers would think about our interpretations of the Constitution today. Somehow I get the feeling that Faneuil would not only completely approve of all the expensive stores and countless food vendors outside the hall bearing his name today, but would have tried to do it himself had there been, say, a Boston Chowda Company at the time.
