The Mission Railway Bridge is a Canadian Pacific Railway bridge spanning the Fraser River between Mission, and Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada.
Replacing an earlier bridge built in 1891, which was the first and only bridge crossing of the Fraser below Siska in the Fraser Canyon until the construction of the New Westminster rail bridge in 1904, it was constructed in 1909 by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). The Mission Railway Bridge is supported by 13 concrete piers and is approximately 533 metres in length. Before completion of the Mission highway bridge, highway traffic to and from Matsqui and Abbotsford with Mission used the bridge as a one-way alternating route, with traffic lights at either end to control direction. Rail traffic often held up car crossings, causing long and often very lengthy waits, which were a part of daily life in the Central Valley until the new bridge was completed.
Beneath the bridge's north abutment is an important river-level gauge monitored during the annual Fraser freshet. The bridge is also the location of the end of the Fraser's tidal bore - downstream from the bridge the river is increasingly influenced by tidal influences from the Georgia Strait.
Swing span
The Mission Railway Bridge has a swing span which has a vertical clearance of 4.9 metres above the water when closed. The swing span is fitted atop a circular concrete pier, the 10th from the north bank of the river. The 10th pier is protected from shipping traffic by two 46 metre wood piers extending upstream and downstream respectively perpendicular to the bridge which are tapered at both ends. The navigation channel past the bridge is 30 metres in width. At night a fixed white light is displayed on piers 9 and 11 as well as at the up-river and down-river ends of the protection pier.
The majority of marine traffic consists of log tows and gravel barges, which are permitted to use the navigation channel beneath the fixed span between piers 5 and 6. The swing span is used for wood chip barges and other vessels which cannot navigate beneath the span between piers 5 and 6.
CPR maintains a bridge tender 24 hours per day at an office on the north bank of the bridge. Vessels requesting passage through the swing span contact the bridge tender on marine VHF radio, whereby the tender walks the bridge to a control booth situated on the swing span.

2020 saw CN's Dash 8 fleet running out its last days, with many already gone to the scrapper. In 1991 2401 and friend were a year old and still looking factory fresh. Too bad about the nose door, even when "air conditioning" wasn't required those nose door latches needed to be properly latched down to keep the door closed.
It's still possible to see a Dash 8 lead a train through here but the wood chip traffic to the mill in Thorold, a daily feature on #333 at the time, is long gone. And now there's a golf course on both sides of the tracks with a bridge over the tracks so it's not as quiet here as it once was. Back then I came here quite often. I'd occasionally see another fan and sometimes a horse rider or two in the field to the left but most often it was just quiet and you didn't have to duck golf balls!
Netherlands, Noord Holland, IJmuiden, Noordersluis (Northern lock), Dyna Pure wood chip bulk carrier (slightly cut from T&B)
While watching the Dyna Pure wood chip carrier (build in 2006,
210 x 32m, DWT 54 kT) passing the locks, Boz Scaggs' song Dinah Flow entered my mind and after that, ofcourse, the suavely funky opening bars of Lowdown (the You Tube link is to a 2004 life version of the song). And thru the processing of this pic of the ship I got the feeling hat the engineering department of the ship’s builder must have had a certain ironic affinity with the early 20th century supramist painter & sculpturist Kadinsky.
This is number 11 of the IJmuiden album and 1185 of Minimalism & explicit graphism.
The mysterious and extremely rare Giraffe Snake (serpentus giraffa) which can only be found in Sprout Forest (please see first comment), also known as "What you see are the feet of a small giraffe ceramic figure, once dropped, and fixed, picture rotated per 90 degrees to the left" snake.

A Happy Macro Monday, Everyone!
With Hull’s rich maritime heritage, it’s not surprising to find out the city has a seafood restaurant which rivals the best in London and other major cities.
Humber Fish Company is a seafood lover’s paradise but also caters for those who aren’t with a small selection of non-seafood options so that everyone can enjoy a marvellous meal together. The menu features everything from classic, beautiful fish and chips through to luxurious, tantalizing lobster and seafood platters.

ODC-Chip(s)
I did a grocery shopping this morning and picked up a couple of bags of Salt Free Kettle Chips, my favourite. I paired them with some Tzatziki Dip. This dip has its origins in the Ottoman Empire. It was yummy!
He's got a chip on his shoulder!
When I decided to keep these two McDonald characters from Corentin's toys for my Happy Hippy bag I wasn't sure if I'd ever use them.
I found a use for them both for this weeks Macro Mondays Group!
I stuck the chip to the bigger one with some Blu Tac which you can still see, but trying to clone it out did no justice to the photo so I left it as it was.
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :O)
A chisel striking a chip of a stone chip, my Macro Mondays creation for the theme "Chip" The stone is a typical small garden pebble about 1/2" in size.
Taken today guys, he's been up and down today, lots of cuddles, so hard to lose a dog slowly this way but he's not in pain and is still alert and enjoying things albeit at a slow pace. We'll let him go when the time arrives.
A chip out of one of my favourite Denby bowls. Dropped a wine glass on it. Having too much fun I guess.
Happy Macro Monday everyone. Looking forward to everyone's submissions and to see how many different chip(s) we get.
