Outdoor patio display at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show in Seattle, Washington. This patio had a great outdoor kitchen and dining area and this Giant Chess Set. I Soooo. wanted to move just one piece but I controlled myself.

A chess set from Korea that I got as a Christmas gift sometime back in the '80s. It is plastic made to look like well worn carved ivory. It is a nice looking set though, although it has been even longer than that since I've played chess. This was a gift from my parents, who were living in Korea (temporarily) at the time. For 2016: one photo each day (201/366).

Chess is one of the most mind bending and intellectually stimulating games available. It has been proven to develop you analytical skills and help to clarify your thinking. Although it is very complex game to play well, it is very easy to begin. Once you learn the basic moves each piece can do and a few other rules you can begin to play. Practicing is where you really learn to become a better player. You can never be to young to learn and many people keep learning past their old age.
I brought this vintage chess set back from my Mum's home after she passed away last year. I think it may have gone to the local tip if I hadn't taken it. It must be at least sixty years old and probably quite a bit more as I think it was my Nan's before my Dad inherited it.

The chess board was placed in a 24" x 24" light box with a black velvet-textured fabric as a backdrop. It was illuminated by two Nikon SB900 speedlights and a [Pro] master VL1144 steady studio light in a 24" x 24" soft box (for fill). The SB900's were placed laterally 90-degrees CL and CR and fired bare through the light box in Manual mode @ 1⁄4 power. The speedlight CR was angled up at a 45-degree angle. The VL1144 was placed 2' behind and 2' above the camera positon and angled down at subject at 45-degrees.
The SB900's were triggered by three PocketWizard Plus X's.
Lens: AF - S DX VR Zoom - Nikkor 18 - 200mm f / 3.5 - 5.6G IF - ED with 12mm extension tube attached.
