Something else that I love about up north, these trees. Unfortunately there was lack up them blooming, due to the long hard winter they had.

Every year, Japanese people go crazy over cherry blossoms and billions of images are taken. Every year, I promise myself that I will not take part in the insanity. Every year. I break my promise. This is one of my 2019 clichéd offerings.
Lovely cherry wood desk, used by my daugher for her computing, homework, and writing. Highly functional.

Japanese Cherry blossoms in the Cherry blossom park in the Amsterdamse bos.
Yearly in the month of March or April, the Cherry Blossom Festival is organised in Amstelveen.
In 2000 the Japanese Women’s Club (JWC) donated 400 cherry trees to the city of Amstelveen.
Special detail is that every tree has a name, 200 trees have a Japanese woman's name, 200 trees have a Dutch woman's name.
I have a feudal arrangement with my neighbour. Each year I harvest the cherries from her tree which overhangs my garden. I bake pie, and she comes round to help me eat it!
This year the cherries have ripened earlier and are sweeter than normal. This has made them popular with the local bird population. I had to harvest fast otherwise the wood pigeons would have gobbled them all.
