Château de Chenonceau, Located on the River Cher, Residence of Henry II mistress Diane de Poitiers, the passing to Catherine de' Medici from which she ran France, used as a hospital in the First world War and as an escape route from the Nazis in World War II.
With dozens of castles, the Loire Valley is rich in photos opportunities. Chenonceau remains one of the most beautiful site. Seen here from the west.
Not gardens, per se, but the flowers are all grown and arranged on the castle grounds and they were stunning.
