A herbaceous perennial plant which spreads out with its extensive creeping rhizomes and which will flower from late spring and early to mid summer. Some people commonly use St Johns Wort for depression and mood disorders as this plant contains chemicals that act on messengers in the brain that regulate mood and has been used in folk medicine over centuries and is still commercially cultivated to this day. As this plant is commonly harvested at the time of the summer solstice in late June around St Johns Feast Day on the 24th June this is how this plant got its name St Johns Wort.

Some time back I was playing around with Long Exposure shots, this is one just next to a railway station that doubles as consumers on one side but industrial on the other; the result of the lights gave this image a particular green hue, something like a nuclear or chemical polluted world. I was caught with this near dystopia atmosphere and composition line thanks to the tracks.

Chemical plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany in 1979. After I got this shot and a couple of others, my friend and I asked if we could go inside to get some pics. Nope, the guards told us we had to leave.

One of my last captures of the day at Chemical Beach. The battle scars from its industrial past still evident and somehow adding to the beaches twisted beauty. The foreboding sky giving me just enough warning to evade the incoming weather. Just a 10 second exposure here to help grab some of that sky detail.
Back at Chemical Beach in Seaham last night. Fortunate enough to capture some of the amazing sunset. To be honest the sunset wasnt why I had gone there, the forecast was cloudy and overcast so was expecting to do some LE's in Mono. However the sky was simply irresistable. It was only visible from the shore for a few minutes, but after climbing back up those cliffs there was a vibrant firey underbelly which was visible for miles inland.

Chemical Beach is the name given to the beach south of Seaham harbour. The Seaham Chemical Works operated from the 1860s until it closed in 1885. The waste and glass was dumped into the sea. Later waste disposal was created, dumping the glass further out to sea, north of the harbour.
