There were three male cheetahs trying to mate with a female. Unfortunately we didn't see any cheetah running at top speed. I still hope one day to see that, it must be one of the most amazing spectacles in nature.

During a recent trip to Masai Mara, on the first day there we saw this female Cheetah all alone hiding in the bushes. We waited for quite a while hoping she would come out into the open, which she did only after the Sun had set.

This photograph was taken at 6.50 pm at a very slow shutter speed. Whilst out there I didn't expect much of a shot but back home the result on the screen was much better than expected. Although the composition is all wrong with her feet all cut off, she did give a very interesting impression.

While our safari vehicles relentlessly kept pace with this cheetah family, they sat and stared at us in the setting sun. And it was a smiling face I swear! I mean come on, how often do you find cheetahs looking this friendly? I took many shots of these two but this one stood out due to the beautiful light on the first cheetah, it looks like he is positively glowing! I mean why wouldn’t you, if you have the lovely savannah life full of food, fun and thrills!

This adolescent cheetah was resting in the shade with the rest of his family after devouring an impala. At the moment of this this shot, he had just spotted a line of zebras about a quarter of a mile away. Phinda Game Reserve, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa

Series of the cheetah at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. I arrived in Cleveland early for work, so I stopped in the zoo to putz around with the camera. Unfortunately, it was right around 100 degrees out, so most of the animals were hiding from the sun.

Both are straight out of the camera.

Much better on black or large please xx

This gorgeous female cheetah was the proud and caring mother of four incredibly cute and playful cubs. While they were playing, rolling, stumbling over and running around like crazy, she remained very alert. She kept watching her surroundings the whole time, just to make sure her cubs were safe. It was definitely one of the most amazing and memorable wildlife experiences I've had so far.

Some cheetahs at the zoo.

This Cheetah had to be thirsty. The water was brackish. It would come, take a drink, grimace, walk a bit, then take another drink, etc.

Cheetah - The cheetah is a large feline inhabiting most of Africa and parts of Iran. The cheetah is a unique felid, with its closest living relatives being the puma and jaguarondi.

The cheetah is still considered by some to be the smallest of the big cats. It is often mistaken for the leopard, but the cheetah has distinguishing features, such as the tear-streak lines that run from its eyes to its mouth, and the thinner body frame of the cheetah is also very different from that of the leopard.

This cat is notable for being only one of three felids with only semi-retractable claws, offering extra grip in its high-speed pursuits. Cheetahs are the fastest of land mammals, are peaceable except at breeding time. They hunt alone and don’t have any of the group behaviors that lions do.

A cheetah cannot roar, it uses a high-pitched barking called chirping. Growling is often accompanied by hissing and spitting and is exhibited if the cheetah is annoyed, or when faced with danger. Purring as with most cats, is when the cheetah is content, usually between cubs and their mothers.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park has been introducing dogs to calm the skittish cats and bring attention to their plight. Pairing "companion dogs" with cheetahs to serve as playmates and to comforting and reassuring the cheetah. Cheetahs are the world's biggest scaredy-cats.

The dogs are the bosses in these relationships, the dog always has the cat's back, but it's never the other way around. Dogs worry about and protect their cats.

The San Diego Zoo was given a pair of cheetahs in 1981 on the condition they be given dogs because they were used to them. San Diego Zoo Safari Park is the top U.S. breeder of cheetahs in captivity. In the past 40 years, over 140 cheetahs have been born at the park's breeding facility. With 6 recent births. A pair from Allie, and 4 cubs from Addison.

Cheetahs are included on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) list of vulnerable species (African subspecies threatened, Asiatic subspecies in critical situation) as well as on the US Endangered Species Act: threatened species.

Hope you enjoyed!

Mother cheetah and her three kits of 4 weeks old are spotted on the horizon - she determinedly leads them towards the road and crosses just in front of our vehicle - our guide had guessed her chosen path and backed up so we were able to give her plenty of room

One of the kits was quite bold and led the way into the bush, another sat down for a few moments then mother left them lying low hidden in the long grass while she went off to hunt
