Early morning on the Monsal Trail.

Chee Dale, the 3rd walk of our weekend trip camping in the Peak District.

After a couple of days walking we we were well and truly knackered starting this walk. Well worth it though, a proper English walk! Wild strawberries, Raspberries and summer flowers galore! It was nice to just walk and not bother with the camera apart from for this photo.

Stepping stones along the River Wye in Chee Dale.

First attempt at long exposures and really struggled with getting front-to-back sharpness with this one. Started out by using the camera in aperture priority which resulted in exposure times of 10 secs at F10. Then a few on manual at F10 for 5 secs and then decided on this one at F6.3 for 3 secs. ISO100 was used. I'm sure I could get a sharper image. Any advice appreciated.

Chee Dale is an absolute gem, secreted in the deep folds and curves of the Upper Wye Valley.

Monsal Trail

Do you recognize the carpet from the last hotel you went to?...

Note to self: I feel a new series coming...hotel corridors, places you go to but you never come out of, I had a lot of the same paint left over, luxury gone wrong, hummmm, let me think..

Note to all: For the painter in you.....relax, have a good time.

It looks hot on black!

the way ahead

Where three dales join together, a railway line used to sail straight through the middle. It is now The Monsal Trail, a cycle and walking path taking people between Buxton and Bakewell in the Peak District.

Old Moor Quarry

Coming this far was like following bear Grylls, uneven slippy rocks high and low.But we turned back at this point because i was worried for my dad for he was wearing his trainers with no grip lol.I loved it.

Chee Dale. A beautiful steep sided limestone gorge in the Peak District. Probably raining as this was taken.

I spent a few a few hours in Chee Dale today. The hazy conditions worked quite well with the sunlight. Just need to get there earlier now in the hope of some sunbeams in mist.

I spent a long time at this spot, exploring and fine tuning compositions. I loved the intersecting angles of the fallen trees.

A magical place. The Peak District is such a geologically diverse landscape. This limestone gorge is only a 30 minute drive from my location the previous week, the treeless gritstone plateau of Kinder Scout.

A photo, into art (maybe not very good).

An interesting mornings walk around Chee Dale. Wet, muddy and very slippery but good to get out and see new places.

I've photographed these before but for once I remembered to take a tripod with me and not have to rely on propping the camera on rocks on the ground.

I've always enjoyed the walk around Chee Dale. It's always such a nice little adventure, private and intimate as not many people know it's there. But it nearly always throws up some surprise, and this time it wasn't just when a sheet of long dagger-like icicles dropped inches past my nose from above.

Can anyone see Darcy in her pink coat?

From a recent excursion in the dark with Tim Gamble and James Mills; lighting and net curtain waving by Tim, standing still duties by James....it seems all too easy to stand and trigger the cameras....
