Experience the Berlin Wall in a unique panorama of the artist Yadegar Asisi.
In the purpose-built rotunda at Checkpoint Charlie, the monumental panorama presents scenes of divided Berlin from the 1980s. Asisi covers 900 square meters of everyday life and the wall in West Berlin. The visitor dives from a 4-meter-high platform into the towering panoramic installation - the perfect illusion of this city.
"Checkpoint Charlie" was one of the Berlin border crossings through the Berlin Wall between 1961 and 1990.
The checkpoint was established in August 1961 as a result of the construction of the Wall to cover the border crossings of Western Allied military personnel, the Soviet Military Association (SMM) and foreign diplomats. The checkpoint was the scene of spectacular escapes from what was then East Berlin. Even before the German reunification on 22 June 1990, the checkpoint was reduced as part of a memorial service. He is today in the Berlin Allied Museum to visit.

This taxi in Berlin shows how efficient a vehicle can be when competing for space in the busy streets. BMW and Mercedes are great on the free way. That is "check-point Charlie" in the background where they attempt to keep the cold war alive for the tourists.
All a bit disappointing. Everything of the original Checkpoint Charlie has long gone. All that is left is a replacement small hut, some sandbags, and some expensive photo opportunities with "actors" dressed up in US Army replica uniforms.

This photo was taken at the Checkpoint Charlie Museum. This is one of the cars once used to smuggle passengers across the border. It's still in the museum today for people to see.

The Berliner Dom or Berlin Cathedral in Berlin, Germany was built between 1895 and 1905. It faces the Lustgarten and the Berliner Stadtschloss (Berlin City Palace).
Later the church of the Dominican Order (Schwarze Brüder), located at the south side of the castle, was used as the first cathedral. The first church at this site was a baroque cathedral by Johann Boumann, which was completed in 1747 and, in 1822, remodelled in the neoclassicist style by the Berlin architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel.
In 1894, on German Emperor Wilhelm II's order, this domed building was demolished and replaced by the current cathedral designed by Julius Raschdorff. At 114 m long, 73 m wide and 116 m tall, it was much larger than any of the previous buildings and was considered a Protestant counterweight to St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
During the Second World War, the building was bombed by the Allies and severely damaged. A temporary roof was installed to protect what remained of the interior and in 1975 reconstruction started. The restoration of the interior was begun in 1984 and in 1993 the church reopened. During reconstruction, the original design was modified into a simpler, less tall form.

The landmark is home to a reconstruction of a border booth behind sandbags as well as a replica white sign informing people they are either leaving or entering the "American Sector" in English, Russian, French and German. Above the hut there is a large photo of a Soviet soldier, and on the other side, as you head south down Friedrichstrasse into the former West Berlin, a US serviceman.
