Raffles Place is another old time favourite places to eat while we were living in Collingwood/Brunswick. It looks a little old and rundown but strangely enough, it has an old skool Singaporean charm. The restaurant is divided into 2 parts, the kitchen & the dining area. The walls are painted pink and is lined with old colonial photos of Singapore and write ups from Elizabeth Chow.

07.23.07 : After reading a certain NY Mag article, I had immediate cravings for Korean Fried Chicken! Heeheee...We got a small order (8 pcs) of sweet (mild) and also one of spicy which was "omg-it'ssortaburningmytongueupbutreallygood-at the same time" kinda way. I've tried UFC and also Bon Chon but it's been a rather long time. To be honest, I love wings in any form!
My night photography has reached a level of artistic mastery so inexplicably grand that, literally, there are no words - in any language - to describe it. Ahead of not only its time, but the capacity of Man to process awe, it will never be properly appreciated and understood… Such is the burden of bold and epic greatness. The Highest of the High are often aggrieved and - due to genius - isolated and alone.
Busan's famous street sweet. A little pancake stuffed with sugar, spice and sunflower seeds cooked on a buttery griddle. These can be found everywhere around BIFF Square (Busan International Film Festival) for 1,000 Won.
Fueling up in Zhuhai before boarding the high-speed rail to Guilin: fresh soy milk, a spongy cake, and four hard-boiled eggs, all for about $3 USD. Simple, fast, and perfect travel calories.
Part of my Travel Asia 2025 set with more from Macau → Zhuhai → Guilin.
Tofu and Strawberries
- tofu pannacotta, wild strawberries
Simple, but truly remarkable dessert - not too sweet, refreshing and light.
Yuji Ramen at the Whole Foods Bowery is operating as a test kitchen for Yuji-san's upcoming restaurant Okonomi in Williamsburg/Brooklyn. Although the brick and mortar place is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013, the food is impressive already.

Happy Chinese New Year! These "faux-tune" cookies are easy, cheap and delicious... Not to mention 3x the size of your standard!
Shinobi Ramen
- premium soy based ramen, original chicken broth topped with bean sprouts, scallion, boiled egg, corn & pork and chicken char-shu.
This bowl was on the house, so my new friend and a very talented wedding photographer Pete Gebhardt and I were only so happy to give it a taste.
Overall, it was a decent bowl of noodles, but it felt "lost in translation" - chicken broth was not right for the good noodles and shoyu seasoning. Chicken char-sui was lean and plain, there was not a touch of smoke and the entire dish was severely lacking umami. It was not bad, but it was bland.
Ahhhh... If only I can have a breakfast like anytime I want...
This little "gypsy" shop is located in the shadow of the Tsukiji fish market, although not within in market itself.
I chose it because there was a short wait, and this place seem to have attracted mostly local crowd - always a good sign.
Some of the rice bowls offered and served were as little as $6-$7 - truly a bargain considering the quality of fish offered.
Barely any English is spoken here, but all the choices are shown on the pictures and prices are very clearly displayed.
Inexpensive, but highly recommended.
Kuaytiaw Khau Kai - fresh wide rice noodles stir-fried in rendered pork fat with chicken, cuttlefish, egg and green onions, served on chipped lettuce. A Bangkok Chinatown Specialty. 11.00

Head Chef Tara (Yuji Ramen has two Head Chefs who create everything together) did an outstanding job at every stage of our meal - cooking, plating, presentation and service.

Mussel
- mussels, scallion, nori, mussel broth
Excellent dish. I can't tell you how much work goes into this dish, and how many stages of the broth preparation there are, no less.
The actual noodles used in this dish were round and thinner than the mazemen noodles we enjoyed in the first two courses of our meal.
By the way, ramen used at Yuji Ramen is made for specifically Yuji-san by a noodle make in NJl; the quality of noodles was simply superb.
