This was after a HUGE step-up that only Greg and Kristian were hitting, but you could skip that and just get the drop, which Chase did numerous times. Might be my 2nd fav shot of the day.

A warning sign at the entrance to the Windmill Pasture, inside Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. Once inside the Windmill Pasture, there is nothing between a hiker/visitor and any bison. Oh, and there's a bison off in the distance.

Just me taking in these stormy skies over the valley late this afternoon. This was around Dos Palos, CA, or around the eastern outskirts of Los Banos, CA. This was during another one of my spontaneous storm chases out in the Central Valley…
*My chase in summary: After church, I left in a rush & made my way to the Central Valley (after seeing a mini thundershower around Gilroy). After refueling in Gilroy, I continued my way to the valley. It was rainy around the Pacheco Pass but cleared up as I reached the San Luis Reservoir. Once I got to the valley, more t-storms had formed & I even drove thru one while around Chowchilla. Very heavy rain & some lightning was experienced. Even a tornado warning was issued on the radio! The warning was for the Tulare County areas as a tornadic t-storm had formed… I was too far from that storm but I continued down highway 99 to hopefully catch another decent cell. But, as I neared Fresno, all I saw ended up being 100% cloud cover & rain which isn’t good. So, I just grabbed lunch around Fresno (Jack in the Box) & then headed back north with clearer skies to where t-storms can form. Storms were indeed popping up around Modesto/Los Banos. I chose Los Banos since it was on the way back. Despite more pop-up storms, nothing really interesting was seen aside from some decent storm structures & rainbows. I called it a day around 7 p.m. after refueling at Santa Nella. I got home just as it got dark & my parents also arrived after they came from Great Mall. It was another tiring chase & go figure, it was exactly last week this day that I also chased! Talk about a crazy month in terms of storms in Cali. Anyways, ‘til next time, happy storm chasing! (Outing taken place Sunday, May 26, 2019)
*Weather scenario/forecast:
A low pressure area had dropped down from the Pacific Northwest, bringing in scattered showers & t-storms. The low was to be east of the area by Monday. By Tuesday thru the next upcoming weekend, a high pressure ridge was to be off the coast. We would see mostly sunny skies with afternoon & evening clouds & t-storms over the Sierras & higher elevations. Looks like summer was finally kicking into gear after today’s unsettled weather…

Red wing blackbirds gave chase to the Red tail hawk this morning. The hawks have at least 2 chicks in the nest that I can see, but their nest is high up in an enormous pine tree far from the path, so I can't be sure that there aren't more. The sound of this hawk makes the hair rise on the back of my neck, it's an amazing sound that travels across the fields. When the red wing blackbirds aren't chasing it away though, the crows are. Seems rather brave of either of them, given the size of the hawk!
