Blurry 'cause I just barely caught it. That's a lens for our 8x10 camera, Chase hooked up a flexible bag thing and taped it to the lens and one of his cameras, for macro stuff, I think.
Exercise Javelin Chase
Brig. Tim Carmichael, commander, 1 Signal Brigade, Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (HQ ARRC), hosted Exercise Javelin Chase (EJC), July 8-9. The race was organized to raise funds to support the Help for Heroes charity.
EJC is a 24-hour running race where 8-man teams will compete to see which team will complete the most laps on a one-mile course in 24-hours. The winning team will be the team that has completed the most amounts of laps in the time period. This could vary from 150 to 200 laps.
Each team had to raise a minimum of £250 to participate in EJC.
“This is a charity race to raise money for Help for Heroes, which is a national charity that looks after the needs of injured military serving members and former service members,” said Brig. Carmichael.
He said they hope to raise a total of £5000 if not more and every single penny will be donated to Help for Heroes charity.
The event took place at the sports field behind HQ ARRC Officer’s Mess. The course was on grass and tracks with no tarmac that winds around and through the woods. As if it wasn’t going to be challenging enough to run 24-hours, the rain on opening day would make it a little more testing.
In the 24-hours a combined total of 2426.00 miles were covered, with the winning team, 299 Signal Squadron, Special Communication running 222 of those miles, and 22 Signal Regiment coming in second with 217 laps.

As cliche as it might sound now, when I was in my 20s, I chased a lot of sunsets. Now that I'm sorting out basically a large cardboard box full of negatives, slides and proof prints. I'm remembering the details (or at least from notes from the time or recognition of landmarks from the area) for most of the shots, but this one I'm at a loss as to exactly where it is (and somewhat, when). I believe this was shot in the winter of 88-89, but where? Well, it's obviously the pacific coast but it could either be the Oregon coast near canon beach or the central Californian coast near San Luis Obispo, I'm just not sure which (also it *may* have been the fall or winter of 87-88, I do have some 35mm slides stamped with that date in the Canon beach area around that time). I really should have taken better notes. I certainly do now.
I do remember it was a little cold and the fog bank on the right was approaching FAST. I shot this whole roll on this sunset and the last three shots stood out.

I met them in a new part of the old bazaar... 5 unsupervised little boys running everywhere, laughing, rushing, falling down, so full of energy... This one was playing that day with an amazingly resistent light bulb tied with a woollen thread.
As they were so lifely and noisy, they were reprimanded by the local shopkeepers ; I followed them and tried to take some photos which was fun but not easy (please see more in the set), they did not speak Turkish yet (a language that they'll learn at school) ;
... finally I was reassured, they ran back through a maze of narrow alleys from the bazaar to their house not that far away : their mothers were sitting together, all living around the same courtyard, everyone linked by blood or only by neighbourhood.
Of course, invited for tea there in a relaxed, but cramped and noisy atmosphere in a tiny western style living room of one of the appartments.
... Hoping that these little boys won't end up like some gangs of youngsters who are spreading terror in their streets, as some narrow lanes not far from there are completely off limits for all the people not living there (and not only for foreigners but any person who does not look "dirt poor !")

Taken just days after I had smashed my Nikon D50. Strong Gust front took out best camera. Another night storm with outflow came a calling. Even with a sand bag attached to the tripod it still blew it straight over. I was only about a foot away but the wind when the storm hit was nasty bad and I wasn't able to make a saving grab.
So this set of images were taken with 5mp LG phone that I simply hated. I had no other means of taking pics. Weird how this set of images would become one of my most viewed here on Flickr.
Now for the rest of the story....
Seriously, I wasn't even going to chase that afternoon. I was bummed out about my camera and lens. Now in a few unfix able pieces. My daughter Alyssa & I were heading over to good friends to BBQ, and have some Fresh Nebraska Sweet Corn & other yummies...
Just leaving my pad, we had looked out to the Northwest, and my jaw about dropped. It was still 20+ Miles away, I just knew she was coming our way... due to radar and warnings out for western counties... but the outskirts of city limits the clouds told the tale... She was going to be a photographic beauty.
My Daughter was hungry for the BBQ but she also wanted to see this storm up close and personal. I gave her a choice... BBQ or Storm.....she wanted to see the storm and we were off to our storm adventure! It was one of the best photographic shelf clouds of 2011! Glad we were there to capture this!
