Having gathered their three units into one consist, the crew of this Illinois Terminal Belt loaded grain train at Heyworth, IL now pulls south to clear the siding switch for the Tate & Lyle grain elevator. They'll shove back to put the train all together before proceeding south to Clinton. Power is MRIX GP10s 8317 and 8344, and MP15AC 1477.
This line includes approximately 10.7 miles of Illinois Central's original Charter line, permanently severed just north of the train in Heyworth, and south of Clinton.

Auch wenn der Stern der Baureihe 101 bereits arg im Sinken begriffen ist und zahlreiche Loks beim Verwerter zerlegt wurden, einige private EVUs setzen den leistungsstarken Drehstromer inzwischen gerne im Sonderzugverkehr ein. So z.B. das holländische Unternehmen Train Charter Services. Die übernommenen 101er erhielten dabei ein interessantes Design, welches in meinen Augen gut mit der kantigen Formgestaltung harmoniert. Am 07. September 2024 brachte die 101 033 einen D 13406 von Ötztal nach Düsseldorf. Bei Wettelsheim konnte ich den langen privaten Reisezug aufnehmen, der sich nach längerer Wartezeit mit Signalabgabe ankündigte und in flotter Fahrt aus dem Bahnhof Treuchtlingen heraus beschleunigte.
Even though the class 101's star is already in serious decline and numerous locomotives have been dismantled by the recycler, some private railway companies now like to use the powerful three-phase AC locomotives for special train services. For example, the Dutch company Train Charter Services. The 101s that were taken over were given an interesting design, which in my opinion harmonises well with the angular design. On 07 September 2024, 101 033 hauled a D 13406 from Ötztal to Düsseldorf. At Wettelsheim I was able to pick up the long private passenger train, which announced itself after a long wait with signalling and accelerated out of Treuchtlingen station at a brisk pace.
Just a simple little shot from a perennially favorite location. The Alaska Railroad doesn't run any regularly scheduled passenger trains south of Anchorage during the off season (mid September to mid May) but charters are a regular occurrence. I'm not sure what particular event this one was for but perhaps it was for the Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau which always chartered a train in March between Anchorage and Seward.
Regardless, whatever it is, the SD70MAC leading on the north end looks good framed up by some fir trees as it wheels the train of glass topped Colorado Railcar built coaches around the gentle curve beside the pond at MP 75.5 north of Girdwood with the snowy Chugach Mountains rising abruptly beyond surrounding Girdwood Valley.

In this scene outside of Heyworth, Illinois, the ITB is putting together a grain train for the CN at Clinton with a pair of former IC Paducah Geeps. Constructed in 1855, these rails were part of Illinois Central's original "Charter Line" spanning 453 miles between Cairo and Dunleith (East Dubuque). Motive Rail Incorporated leased 10.7 miles of the old Charter Line from CN, and began operations last year as the Illinois Terminal Belt.

Union Pacific 844 pulls a National Railway Historical Society charter past the Phillips 66 oil refinery in Woods Cross, Utah on June 28, 1997. The train would take the Ogden Subdivision to Cache Junction where it turned on the wye, and returned to Salt Lake City later the same day.
As the shadows start to lengthen Std 4 tank No. 80151 waits for the single line to return to its home shed at Brighton as Atlantic No. 32424 'Beachy Head' drifts into Horsted Keynes with a local service.

This was definitely THE shot (at least in daylight that is) of my two days out chasing the famous CPKC Holiday Train for my first time. After photographing them crossing South Bay we headed here to wait at this beautiful and peaceful spot along Lower Road.
They are northbound crossing the little causeway over Charter Marsh just north of the hamlet of Wright. They are about to cross from Washington into Essex County and enter the town of Ticonderoga at about MP 97.9 on CPKC's Canadian Subdivision which traces its history back to 1875. Across the cold blue water of Lake Champlain is the state of Vermont and 25 miles to the east rise the 3000+ foot peaks of the southern Green Mountains.
Leading the way is CP 2249 an EMD GP20C-ECO built in 2013. This is a model unique to the CP (they own 130 of them) which are prevalent system wide in yard and local operations.

Having visited the railway again briefly at the weekend, I thought I'd upload one from a visit last year. GWR Collett 2884 Class 2-8-0 Heavy Freight locomotive 3850 works its way towards Cheltenham Racecourse on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway during a 30742 Charters photographic evening.
