Today I met Photographer and Educator Serge Ramelli at El Matador State Beach. I was setup in a spot along the shore working on exposures when he setup up his tripod right next to me and ask "Am I in your composition" The second I heard his voice I knew it was him, I looked him right in the eye and said, "Serge" He said yes. I said Serge Ramelli He said "Yes" Wow!!! The world just keeps getting smaller and smaller. I have seen over 100 of his movies on photography and processing on the internet. Well after the panic subsided, we shared several minutes chatting, He had mentioned that he had been at Laguna Beach previously so I asked him if he's seen the pirates tower at victoria beach. I proceeded to show him a shot of the tower and some other choice spots from LaJolla and CDM. He was kind enough to compliment me on my photography, but then again he might have just been being friendly which is the more likely scenario. :) He is a very nice guy and very charismatic and personable and I took the opportunity to snap a selfie with him. He took my name and said he would check my stuff out. Serge, what your seeing here is a direct result of your video training series. Thanks for producing such a fantastic series of tutorials. :)
You can see Serge's Ramelli's excellent line of products here.
I was setup here hoping that the sun would pop through the clouds at the last minute, but it didn't happen. I'm so glad I ran into Serge Ramelli there or the 2 hour trip would have been in vain. Thanks again Serge it was so nice to meet you. :)
And thank you, for taking the time to visit and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great week. :)
If you have any questions about this photo or about photography in general, I will do my best to help, just post a comment or send me a Flickr mail and I will respond as quickly as possible.
COLIN had become perhaps the most photographed cuckoo in the UK having become habituated to photographers and easy food, many photographers both amateur and professional have traveled miles to Thursley Common to see this charismatic bird, he would land on any prop you put down, to get his meal worms and come within a few meters of you. often there were up to thirty birders, After many years he has failed to return, one would hope he has retired in central Africa, but more lightly he has gone to birding heaven. Hope you will join me in saying how much pleasure he gave to so many people and how much he is missed.

My favorite bridge in medieval Bruges.
"The charismatic area of Bonifaciusbridge and Arentshof has the ability to enchant many a visitor. Its irresistible combination of striking history and warm romance may take your breath away. Arentshof, located along one of the picturesque canals, manages to create an entirely unique atmosphere with its tall trees, hidden benches, mysterious pieces of art and marvelous view on Church of Our Lady and Gruuthuse palace. It’s one of those places to watch the world go by: tourist boats pass and people wander around while the clatter of hoofs from the horse drawn carriages echoes throughout the day. Don’t be fooled further ahead, for the charmed ancient looking Bonifaciusbridge dates from early 20th century and is one of Bruges’ youngest bridges. While you admire the fairytale like canals with inclined houses and passing tourist boats a humble feeling will no doubt wash over you when looking up at the Church of Our Lady. In the evening carefully chosen illumination further enthralls this cherished lovespot." (Romantic hotspots in Bruges)
A charismatic species commonly seen across grassland sites throughout July - Cotgrave Country Park, a former colliery site in Nottinghamshire (UK) (9098)
This is an archiival picture of Waldo, my #1 Hawk Owl of all time. He was a wild owl who hung out at the local zoo one winter season because voles were extremely plentiful.
Zoo staff named this charismatic superstar, who delighted many onlookers and a few other photographers besides me.
The Sword-billed Hummingbird is a charismatic species from Andean South America. It is found from Venezuela and Colombia in the north to Bolivia in the south. The species belongs to a monotypic genus, Ensifera, and is quite different from all other hummingbirds; metallic green and bronzed overall, with a black bill that is slightly upcurved and longer than the body length. This is the only bird species with a bill length that exceeds the body length. When seen perched, the species usually holds its bill quite upright, presumably because of balance issues stemming from this long and relatively heavy structure.

Our North American Kingfishers are not as attractive as many international Kingfisher species, but they are flamboyant, spirited, quirky, charismatic and generally fascinating.
Seen in summer
I was so pleased to see these birds during a recent photo shoot in Spain. I've yet to see one over here in the UK, so it was great to finally have the opportunity to photograph them. Such charismatic & photogenic little birds.
Jan 2023.
“Colin” the mealworm eating Cuckoo has become perhaps the most photographed wild bird in the UK having become habituated to photographers and associated easy food. Many photographers, both amateur and professional, have travelled for miles to see this charismatic bird and images of him are all over social media.
It was well worth travelling 100 miles and waiting a mere two hours for Colin to make an appearance on Thursley Common in Surrey.
it’s six AM and an hooded vulture (necrosyrtes monachus) glides in the morning breeze on the shores
of lake Kariba.
this place although it is a huge artificial lake is one of the most beautiful place I have ever visited.
maybe because i spent three days of boat safari with mr Steve Edwards a former warden of matusadona national park.
Steve has an incredible story and he is a very charismatic person and could stay days to tell adventures that we can just see in the movies.but...are true..
it was for me a great honor to spend a few unforgettable days with him.

This was what we thought was the hard to find upper falls. It wasn't that hard to find. We scouted the day before and came back well prepared for the 5 minute hike. This is 2 blended images, one for the foliage and one for the water. Please enjoy this mediocre image. Kris.. Of Course Vlog Below!!
Thank you so much my dear friends for your support and for your faves and kind comments, very much appreciated. Have a happy day my friends.
Thank you everyone for your supportive comments and faves, they are greatly appreciated! :-) Hope you have a wonderful day, my dear friends!
We have been fortunate to have seen the Burrowing Owls in Davis Ca. Unfortunately their previous burrows had been turned over by large farming equipment which means that these darling little owls will need to move. The Borrowing Owls are the most interesting of the owls as they are out in the day and stare back at you when you are taking there photo. The burrowing owl isn't your average owl: It doesn't live in trees, and it's not nocturnal. It makes its nest underground — usually in abandoned rodent burrows — and is active both day and night. But human population explosion has reduced the charismatic western burrowing owl's breeding populations by more than 60 percent, and counting.
Sometimes a particular Snowy Owl really makes an impression on me. I found this Snowy in appearance and manner extremely winsome and even charismatic.
It is making a stopover in its return migration to the Arctic tundra, perching between railroad tracks.

These are wonderful charismatic birds: noisy, flashy fliers, bold and aggressive hunters.
Two of them have been in our area for most of the summer.
… Charismatic Ganas, ZSL London Zoo’s resident dragon, shows off his impeccably groomed claws.
His powerful venomous bite just adds to his considerable charm :-)
Thank you so much my dear friends for your support and for your faves and kind comments, very much appreciated.
This charismatic warbler was in decline for many years due mainly to droughts in its wintering grounds in Africa.
Now thankfully they are once again quite a common site in our hedgerows heaths and moorlands.
This image was taken a couple of years ago at RSPB Bempton, East Yorkshire.
He looks like a mafia godfather, maybe he was. His charismatic gaze, his calm and imposing attitude. Look at the orientation of his face relative to that of his eyes ... slight tilt. Contrast with the scene on the left, relaxed, bright.
His friends, behind found him, and finally a broad smile invaded his face. Even a nod to the 'youngster' photographer. I was able to breathe again...
My father and I have a stressful relationship. Despite that he was my rock when I was younger. I have always been independent and hard headed and he the same. I have a big open heart and his heart ♥️ is in a cage. He shows his love through gifts and money. He’s not wealthy by any means. My grandfather was just the same. So I love this insufferable man so much, I hope and pray he lightens and unlock his heart. If you met him you would really like him. He’s very charismatic and he loves to socialize. He’s just not good with family, and now we are 2. He’s in South Florida and I am in the mountains. I miss him so much and I love his quirky self. I know he loves me but he has trouble expressing it. He gave me this sterling silver heart one year and it is most special to me. I’m sorry for being so windy and I appreciate your time to read these words. Naturally I Love faves and visits as well as the Flickr community. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY, I HOPE YOU HAVE A SPECIAL SOMEONE, IF NOT THERE IS SOMEONE WAITING FOR YOU ♥️
The name’s Bond; James Bond... 007’s charismatic presence is as palpable today at the Schilthorn Piz Gloria as it always was.
So why not visit the location where the classic Bond On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was shot?
Piz Gloria is the name of the revolving restaurant on the Schilthorn near Mürren in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland.
The laughing kookaburra is an Australian bird with one heck of a cackle! Known as the “laughing kookaburra,” for its charismatic vocalizations, the kookaburra is an intriguing and unique species.
The White-throated Toucan is among the charismatic toucans, well-known for their large bills and bright colours. This species does not disappoint on those counts. This individual was seen at a private sanctuary along the lower portion of the highly diverse Manu Road in Peru.

Known and loved by Australians and gift-shop-visiting tourists alike, Superb Fairywrens may be one of Australia’s most well-known birds. This charismatic species is as likely to be found in back gardens and botanical gardens as it is on vegetated roadsides throughout south-eastern Australia.
The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest living cat species and a member of the genus Panthera. It is most recognisable for its dark vertical stripes on orange fur with a white underside. An apex predator, it primarily preys on ungulates such as deer and wild boar. It is territorial and generally a solitary but social predator, requiring large contiguous areas of habitat, which support its requirements for prey and rearing of its offspring. Tiger cubs stay with their mother for about two years, then become independent and leave their mother's home range to establish their own.
The tiger was first scientifically described in 1758 and once ranged widely from the Eastern Anatolia Region in the west to the Amur River basin in the east, and in the south from the foothills of the Himalayas to Bali in the Sunda Islands. Since the early 20th century, tiger populations have lost at least 93% of their historic range and have been extirpated from Western and Central Asia, the islands of Java and Bali, and in large areas of Southeast and South Asia and China. Today, the tiger's range is fragmented, stretching from Siberian temperate forests to subtropical and tropical forests on the Indian subcontinent, Indochina and Sumatra.
The tiger is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. As of 2015, the global wild tiger population was estimated to number between 3,062 and 3,948 mature individuals, with most of the populations living in small isolated pockets. India currently hosts the largest tiger population. Major reasons for population decline are habitat destruction, habitat fragmentation and poaching. Tigers are also victims of human–wildlife conflict, particularly in range countries with a high human population density.
The tiger is among the most recognisable and popular of the world's charismatic megafauna. It featured prominently in the ancient mythology and folklore of cultures throughout its historic range, and continues to be depicted in modern films and literature, appearing on many flags, coats of arms and as mascots for sporting teams. The tiger is the national animal of India, Bangladesh, Malaysia and South Korea.
From a perch somewhere in your yard, a bird repeatedly utters a noisy call: “ta-whichity, ta-whichity, ta-whichity.” High in energy, this little brown bird with a stubby, rounded tail and a conspicuous white stripe over its eye is constantly on the move, stopping only briefly to sing. This bird shows little fear of humans, and, if you make no sudden moves or noise, may perch within a few feet of you. It also is bold, and may scold or chase your cat—but from a safe distance. If you have a bird with these qualities, you likely are sharing your yard with the charismatic Carolina Wren, which also inhabits wild environments throughout Florida. This songbird is in the family Troglodytidae (wrens) within the order Passeriformes (perching birds), and has 10 relatives in North America—5 of which also are found in Florida. The Carolina Wren is the largest of the Florida wrens. All species of the North American wren family are small, brownish in plumage coloration (sexes similar), and very active. In the wild, Carolina Wrens may live up to 6 years of age.
I found this one in my backyard in Polk County, Florida.
It was so cool going to the Smith Oaks Rookery for the first time. I had never seen anything like it. I had seen my first Roseate Spoonbill a day before in South Padre Island but never up close like this. It was funny watching these clumsy birds try to balance on top of these tiny branches as they collected nest material. What interesting and strangely beautiful, charismatic birds they are! I have always wanted to see one. They were nesting beside other birds, such as Tricolored Herons, Great, Cattle and Snowy Egrets and Neotropic Cormorants. There were hungry alligators waiting for any young bird that unfortunately dropped from the nest. Purple and Common Gallinules, Anhinga, White Ibis and Little Blues were also present. This park was really birdy and I was able to see some beautiful Prothonotary and Cape May Warblers and Yellow-billed Cuckoos. Too much for the senses to handle! I really didn't know where to look! All the birds in the rookery were in gorgeous breeding plumage and the sounds the Snowy Egrets made were the strangest I'd ever heard. The best moment was watching two Spoonbills clap their bills together affectionately. I got a few photos of that magical encounter.
Thanks to Houston Audubon for running and preserving this great place.
Today's theme for the 'Smile on Saturday' group is to portray the title of a novel via a photo.
My submission Is the book, Close-Up by Len Deighton. This is a close up of a Poppy.....
The book is about the private life of a public idol, Marshall Stone, Superstar.....He is brilliant, rich and charismatic. He is starting to lose his looks and the story follows the horror of the stigma of his decline......Don’t think it’s a comedy.....
Thanks for visiting.
Happy Smile on Saturday....
Located beside the Butter Gap Trail, Pisgah Ranger District, Pisgah National Forest, Brevard, NC...Nestled in a beautiful setting down off a steep but short scramble path along the Butter Gap Trail, you'll find this gem of a waterfall about 1/2 mile south from the intersection with the Long Branch Trail. The top of the waterfall sits about 12 feet lower than the trail. The waterfall ranges from 28-32 feet in height and spans the entire width of the creek. A week earlier the flow was higher, but early yesterday evening it did not disappoint. I arrived as Golden Hour was settling in under cloudy, light rainy conditions. When I was here, I sensed a unique spirit and found the falls to be uniquely charismatic.
The Nuthatch is a charismatic inhabitant of woodland and an agile visitor to bird tables.
A handsome bird with a similar shape and structure to a woodpecker. The Nuthatch has a slate grey back, black eye stripe, white cheeks and orange breast; it is possible to distinguish male birds by their contrasting dark rufous flanks. Birds can be seen all year round in the UK, particularly in old deciduous woodland, although the species is absent from Northern Ireland and central to northern Scotland. The species possesses a range of loud whistling calls.
Nuthatches nest in tree holes or nest boxes, reinforcing the nest entrance with dried mud. Up to eight eggs are laid. The Nuthatch UK population trend shows a significant increase since the 1970s, which may be caused by a fall in the rate of nest failure and an increase in brood size and the number of chicks successfully reared per breeding attempt.
After a long, exhausting, boring and maddening torrid summer, finally the atmosphere begins to cool off, giving us the possibility to go out at dusk and enjoy a leisure walk.
Yesterday we took advantage of the pleasing temperatures and the fresh wind to go to a recently inaugurated park near home, from where you can enjoy this perspective of the Five Towers.
In this image you can see the uphill street Chiquinquirá leading your look towards the charismatic towers. In the right side of the image, a car descends the ramps on an industrial building in Hortaleza.
I took the picture at dusk, a very late one, concretely at 9:36 pm, one hour after the sunset.
I promise to go back to this park during the Autumn and Winter to capture more light trails along the street.
I hope you like the picture and I send you much hugs and kisses, my friends!
