Badrinath is a holy town in the Chamoli district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is one of the four sites in India's Char Dham pilgrimage and gets its name from the Badrinath Temple. The town lies between the Nar and Narayana mountain ranges, 9 km east of the Neelkanth peak (6,596m).

In a desperate quietism of terra incognito-where hanging in noon tides of obscurity. They drifted into a state of mind - where your head thinks but heart cant opine & fitful raptures of soul shook their worlds marked by quakes upon the skyline.

Faith must've taken toll through such ravages, created by the savages, of the unhintered lands.

Goes along as a prayer that the faith that was broken in NW Himalayas particularly in the Holy Shrines of Uttarakhand, shall be trodden once more. That the end of day may see, the birth of Child.

Shot @ Kedarnath, India. Must View On Black

Shaivism is as old as Indian civilization. The first reference of Shiva dates back to Harappa civilization. Though probably Shiva was a philosophy rather than a deity, but today we have almost lost the philosophy of Shiva and myth has taken place of. (Read The Lingam of Shiva and The Taj)

From thousands of years of tradition and practices the interpretation has been taken form of Shiva as the celebration of destruction and new beginning. Along with the new interpretation the form of lingam has also changed, from the pillar of light (knowledge) to the current one of the celebration of life.

As my view of Religion as a Philosophy I tend to accept the lost knowledge. But I don’t keep the view that interpretation has to remain same throughout the ages. It should change according to the requirement of time.

So I do love the relatively new approach of celebration. I do love those religious practices, though my way differ. I am as Saivite as my better-half. (see The other side of the Door)

The shot was taken during my visit to Kedarnath this June. It was a freezing evening I was in the temple campus looking for some shots of the temple in the neon. I knew there will be some evening arati, as in other Shiva temples in the country. But what I had in next 30 minutes was totally different experience altogether. With the ringing bells and the sound of Domru, which is kind of getting rarer in the last decade, and in that chilly evening about a hundred devotees clapping their hands, it created an atmosphere which I could feel even now sitting thousands of kms far from homeland.

And the photograph is one of the reason behind making that evening as one of my most memorable.

That’s why I love those religious people, though otherwise I feel that they are being fooled by some fanatics for sake of making money.

Badrinath temple (Hindi/Garhwali: बद्रीनाथ मंदिर), sometimes called Badrinarayan temple, is situated along the Alaknanda river, in the hill town of Badrinath in Uttarakhand state in India. It is widely considered to be one of the holiest Hindu temples, and is dedicated to god Vishnu. The temple and town are one of the four Char Dham and Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites. It is also one of the 108 Divya Desams, holy shrines for Vaishnavites. The temple is open only six months every year (between the end of April and the beginning of November), due to extreme weather conditions in the Himalayan region.

Several murtis are worshipped in the temple. The most important is a one meter tall statue of Vishnu as Lord Badrinarayan, made of black Saligram stone. The statue is considered by many Hindus to be one of eight swayam vyakta kshetras, or self-manifested statues of Vishnu.[1] The murti depicts Vishnu sitting in meditative posture, rather than His far more typical reclining pose. In November each year, when the town of Badrinath is closed, the image is moved to nearby Jyotirmath.

100 foot bronze Lord Shiva statue stands tall as you enter Haridwar from the East and South along the Rishikesh-Haridwar highway. Situated along the Ganga river bank in the Swami Vivekananda Park, the massive idol is a favourite destination for tourists and pilgrims alike.

Journey of Char Dham Yatra

The "Char Dham Yatra" truly means "an excursion through the four house seats". This incorporates going to four of the most religious destinations in India, adored by Hindus. Some even call it a journey that each Hindu must embrace in any event once in their life.

Veer Badhra! Lord Shiva is disgraced by his in-laws and begins his dance of destruction.

One of 12 Jyotirlinga's (famous Shiva Lingams). This one is believed to be the hardest to reach, and it is only open for 3 months a year.

Apparently, he said he lives in the same block as my Ajiba. He was doing the same pilrimage as us... except walking!

Shivling is a mountain in the Gangotri Group of peaks in the western Garhwal Himalaya, near the snout of the Gangotri Glacier. It lies in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, 6 kilometres (4 mi) south of the Hindu holy site of Gaumukh (the source of the Bhagirathi River). Its name refers to its status as a sacred symbol of the God - Lord Shiva's Shiva Linga.

Karna was a character from the Mahabharat, an Indian epic.

Prayag means congruences of two rivers - it is usually a holy occurence and so there is a spot below where Karna, over 5000 years ago workshiped the Sun God and received blessings. We all bathed in the rapids below...
