Il nous regarde en plein visage, le temps qui nous ignore et qui répand au plus secret de nous, hors des saisons et de l'immobile nuit, l'odeur puissante et féroce de l'oubli.
Passereau de la famille des Muscicapidés, insectivore migrateur qui loge dans les arbres et les buissons. Les rougequeues ont colonisé le sureau et le prunier du jardin pour notre plus grand bonheur. Celui-ci s'était posé sur la barrière envahie de lierres derrière la maison et posait fièrement avec sa proie pour la photo !
Passerine of the "Muscicapides" family, migratory insectivorous that resides in trees and bushes. The black restart have colonized the elderberry and plum tree of the garden for our greatest happiness. He had landed on the fence invaded by ivy behind the house and proudly posed with his prey for the photo !

Taken Addo Elephant National Park, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
Addo Elephant National Park is a diverse wildlife conservation park situated close to Port Elizabeth in South Africa and is one of the country's 20 national parks. It currently ranks third in size after Kruger National Park and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. I spent four consecutive days within the park which provided an amazing variety of wildlife.

Le mâle, au printemps, arbore une livrée entièrement noire, hormis une tache alaire plus ou moins blanche et la queue rousse. Souvent agité de mouvements brusques, le corps dressé sur de longues pattes, il n'hésite pas à piquer rapidement sur un insecte ou à l'attraper au vol. Il est parfois appelé "Rossignol des murailles ou queue rousse " C’est grâce au chant qu’on le repère alors qu’il est généralement perché sur un point haut.

The pale chanting goshawk is an opportunistic raptor and eats a wide variety of prey including small mammals, lizards, birds, large insects and carrion. It has also been recorded predating upon Tent tortoise and Leopard tortoise hatchlings which are swallowed whole while the shell is still soft. There is some evidence of social hunting in breeding groups but solitary hunting is the norm. Pale chanting goshawks commonly associate with foraging Honey badgers and feed on organisms that are flushed by the Honey badger's feeding activity. This association increases the hunting opportunities and prey capture success of the pale chanting goshawk while the honey badger does not suffer any loss of foraging efficiency. (Wikipedia)

As we were speeding down the dirt road, I noticed something perched on a fallen tree and shouted for the driver to stop and back up. The light was getting really low by then, but I was able to pick out this Dark Chanting Goshawk and make a few images in the fleeting light.

Grive aux couleurs chaudes, teintes brun-rougeâtre clair dessus, poitrine beige et ventre blanc. Les taches du dessous sont indistinctes, délavées et concentrées sur le haut de la poitrine. Beau chant, spirale descendante de notes flûtées. S’observe dans divers habitats boisés, préférant souvent les milieux plutôt humides. Source : eBird

Warm-colored thrush, with bright reddish-brown tones above, buffy breast, and white belly. Spots are indistinct and washed out, concentrating on upper breast. Beautiful song is cascading spiral of flute-like notes. Found in a variety of wooded habitats, often favoring wetter areas.
