An hour after sunset.

Night HDR from 3 exposures in Photomatix.

The Chiang Kai-Shek memorial hall is an elaborate building that is the centrepiece of liberty square. The hall is an octagonal building with glazed blue tiles designed to resemble the temple of heaven in Beijing. The Building houses a bronze statue of the president which is guarded by two statuesque guards. There is an elaborate ceremony of the changing of the guard at every hour on the hour.

When I took this photo it was the middle of the afternoon and still around 38 degrees outside, this guard was sweating insanely but still didn't budge an inch. When I returned later to witness the changing of the guards, his uniform was completely soaked through with sweat. I converted the picture into black and white as I thought it added greater impact to the piece.

This placed fifth in Theme #02 - Professions and Crafts in dotArt's Urban International Photography competition.

Balmy evening at the Chang Kai Shek Memorial Square. Taipei - Taiwan.

This shot was taken in 1968 and I have listed it on the slide as "square in Taipei" Does anyone know what the building is?

Select the image of the magnifying glass right above the image to the right, on the subsequent webpage, select "All Sizes," and finally on the last webpage select "Original Size" to read an article or to see the image clearly.

I thought others might appreciate these tidbits of forgotten history of People of Color.

Please feel free to leave any comments or thoughts or impressions... I look forward to reading them!

Finally went to visit the CKS Memorial Hall which is only one MRT stop away from my apartment in Taipei. The afternoon was rainy, but when I exited the main hall the setting sun was peeking through the clouds over the National Theater.

I had only my G12 sans tripod, but there was enough light to get a decent hand-held shot.

Taken at Chang Kai Shek Memorial, Taiwan

While waiting for the rest of the group, who had left the hotel early to go to the camera stores, Lehboy, Ela and I had some time to explore the Chang Kai Shek Temple.

I never really knew what Chai Kai Shek did for the people of Taiwan, but he must be really important to have a Temple dedicated to him with 2 soldiers guarding him 24/7. Kinda reminds me of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC.

Ummm massive totalitarian architecture by the asian equivalent of Albert Speer. The tiny specks in the doorway are actually people. The scale is beyond insane into the realm of the ludicrous. It's worth your nickle to view the larger size and soom in on the humans in the doorway. To see this in its setting, click here.

A supporter Taiwan's DPP political party awaits the start of the last length of a march across the whole island on Feb 28, 2008. Feb 28th is a national holiday in Taiwan in remembrance of the beginning of a massacre of ethnic Taiwanese at the hands of Chaing Kai Shek and the KMT.

Wow, dicatorships have a way of expressing themselves in grand terms. The gate in the foreground is The Gate of Great Centrality and Perfect Uprightness. It is the main entranceway to the massive plaza crowned by the Chang Kai Shek Memorial Hall and flanked by the National Theatre and the National Concert Hall.
