It's not always that easy to distinguish the good guys from the bad guys. Sinners can surprise you. And the same is true for saints. Why do we try to define people as simply good or simply evil? Because no one wants to admit that compassion and cruelty can live side by side in one heart. And that anyone is capable of anything

But time has been kind
in a weird kind of way
Cause I've been waiting for this feeling to leave
If I can hold onto this feeling this long
Maybe I can get you to hold me
Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.
Words by Harriet Tubman
for Flickriver - Sophie Shapiro
.
"As a writer, what interests me the most is how we deal with fear, maybe because I don't always deal with it very well myself....
I have spent time with many individuals who have suffered horribly from war or from illnesses sweeping through their continent. I've talked to people who have lost everything and who still manage to get up in the morning, laugh at a joke, and show kindness to those around them. That is real courage.
... I've learned that, in the middle of cruelty, it's possible to be kind; that in the middle of great pain, it's possible to share laughter; that in the middle of loneliness, it's possible to reach out to someone and be open to someone reaching out to us. These are acts of revolution. These are acts that can change the world.
... I hope that... you will want to join me on top of a table, so that the sound of all our dancing will make the whole world laugh."
Deborah Ellis, author's note in A Company of Fools (2002)
«Lord, give me strength to change what can be changed ...
Resignation to accept what can not be changed ...
And wisdom to distinguish one from the other.»

You dont have to be a star to change the world. Just put your best foot foward and put your ideas and energy out there to share and grow. This is at the famous sidewalk in Hollywood in front of Graumin Chineese Theater in Los Angeles, California. Blessings.

As we (in the United States) celebrate our Independence Day, let us commit to using our freedom for good. However, in the past few days, ISIS has conducted a series of violent attacks across several countries as Muslims everywhere celebrate their holy month of Ramadan.

Important note I didn't fully capture:
WalMart is largest provider of "organic" food but are they sustainable? What is the footprint from transporting food all over North America?
Compare that to Zack Dowell who uses the forest floor organic instead of carting it away and then fertilizes.
This is analgous to the UBC media wiki, radical reuse of content.

All told with a very biting abject tone. Irony is not lost on me. Gotta love @brlamb!

Art has been a lifelong passion of mine. As a kid, I would sit on my bed and copy my favourite band logos with led pencil or acrylic paint. Iron Maiden, RATT, Metallica, Slayer, Dokken... you name them, I copied their logo in my sketchbooks, on school desks (yer... naughty, I know) and, my most favourite of all, I painted a denim jacket entirely with band logos. Boy, I wish I still had it!
I was always creating something artistically, taking photos, knitting, sewing, baking biscuits, anything to keep the passion of creating something alive. There's nothing more fulfilling.
Today I photograph, write about music and musicians, build websites, and create graphic designs, build businesses... The urges to create artistically continues to grow and grow.
I've always loved to help other artists--bands, painters, authors, directors, sculptures... To me, they have always been the most important people on Earth. They are tomorrow's creators; they are the authors of the future to come.
My friend, David Carus, shares the same point of view. His driving force is to make EVERYONE an artist and believes if we all got busy creating art, in any form, evil would subside and Earth would become a more peaceful place for us all--without war, famine, drug abuse, violence...

While the dream may sound ambitiously idealistic and improbable to many, this matters not. It's the message that's important, and it's one step of many that need to be taken to change the world to a better place.
I've ordered one of David's colouring books and t-shirts to help fund his Kickstarter campaign. If you are passionate about art and helping people become artists, please make a donation, no matter how big or small, to David's Kickstarter campaign by clicking here: http://kck.st/1ZASed4

In March 2020, MedGlobal conducted its first large-scale medical brigade in Cúcuta, Colombia, a border city that has become an epicenter of Venezuelan migration. As Colombia braced for the arrival of COVID-19, MedGlobal volunteers provided basic medical care to nearly 1,500 venezuelan refugees and internally displaced Colombians living on the outskirts of Cúcuta.
This medical brigade was an extension of MedGlobal’s ongoing work in Colombia which includes an outpatient clinic serving Venezuelan refugees and a first contact clinic at the Francisco de Paula Santander International Bridge.
John Mayer "Waiting on the World To Change"
Me and all my friends
We're all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing and
There's no way we ever could
Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it
So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change
It's hard to beat the system
When we're standing at a distance
So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change
Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want
That's why we're waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change
It's not that we don't care,
We just know that the fight ain't fair
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change
And we're still waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting waiting on the world to change
One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change
The beginnings of this century, it's known, are characterized by a severe economic crisis that penalizes especially young people. Spain, like other countries of southern Europe, has experienced more than others this negative condition, creating a mass movement.
A force of desperation which is also the ability to mage to survive, as thought this guy in the busy streets of the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. Using the energy generated from the pedals of the bike, he has become an ecological grinder. Someone can calls it "new economy", but the craft is always the real engine of the world.

We're midway through the judging at the DFJ Venture Challenge today…
Here you see a UC Davis team demonstrating light-dimming demand response to help reduce utility blackouts.
From numerous entrants to the business plan competition, 18 teams presented this morning, and now six finalists are presenting extended versions of their pitch, and fielding questions from the VC judging panel.
It was a very tough call… and we were trying to reduce to five finalists:
• UW has two finalists: Athleon and Impel Neuropharma (drug delivery via the upper nasal cavity to better cross the blood-brain barrier)
• Stanford: Cascade Clean Energy (Microbial Fuel Cell for waste water treatment and energy generation)
• UCLA: CityMedia (novel social meeting places for the Indian market)
• UCSD: NeuroVigil (simpler brainwave monitoring for sleep disorder diagnosis)
• UC Davis: Advanced Enological Closures (better screwcaps for wine!)
Good luck to all!

I gave a speech at graduation about how I dared every member of my graduating class to try different things throughout life,. I then saw Cody Smith's "I am" video on flickr, sparking this stop motion collaboration idea.
For being my first stop motion collaboration, I don't think we did too shabby! Thank you all for participating!
