I ran into him on the street and I hadda pop him good.

I thought this would be a great use for the model skeleton my Dad sent me. This isn't just for halloween... this is all the time. :D
It wasn't an easy morning for her. Her sister left for her first day of school (ever). I was trying to keep a stiff upper lip, but truth is, I felt the emptiness too.
this is the poppa sparrow who's nesting in our backyard. the momma was somewhere on the other side of the big pine tree, playing hard to get. (they'd just spent a tender moment hanging out on the birdbath.)
we had a scare with their nesting box a couple of weeks ago: after hearing an ungodly racket of screaming sparrows, i noticed a brown-headed cowbird trying to get inside. (read dogfaceboy's explanation of cowbirds' evility.) over the winter some flying squirrels had used the box as a roosting place, gnawing at the hole until it was big enough for the cowbirds. so we took the box down, nailed some wood to cover up part of the hole, and put it back. and we waited.
right before i took this shot a little while ago, i saw this little guy fly out of the box.
and just this morning i saw a cowbird look at the hole, give up, and fly away.
now if the house finches would just come back and make some babies in the geranium basket i hung up this morning, i will be a very, very happy woman.
