Macro Monday theme - Unusual Pattern

I used several different subjects for this theme and I decided on this one to post! It was a challenging theme for me. This is a flat cheese grater on a colorful label.

Happy Macro Monday!

Thank you for visiting and your kind comments, awards and faves - I appreciate them all.

Life is challenging for all of us right now, but I will try to keep sharing some of the beauty from my small part of this vast world. Here in Canada, we are being told by our leaders to stay at home, but they also are encouraging us to get outdoors. Of course that means staying out of crowds, and keeping a safe distance from each other. So keeping this in mind, I will endeavour to continue taking pictures where possible.

This beautiful sunset was at the marsh boardwalk of Canada’s most southern national park, Point Pelee.

Thank you so much for all your favs and comments. Stay safe my friends!

Challenging times abound...

Hang on, people of the world, and keep showing kindness and spreading love....

A challenging day out in The Dales with a few friends one of whom hadn't been before so we took in the usual spots. The forecast for sunrise looked great for the Malham Lone Tree but turned out to be quite flat and that set the tone for most of the day weather wise.

Ribblehead wasn't part of the plan but we could see a few breaks developing when we were at Winskill so decided to chance it.

This is one of many Bullfinches found at Summer Leys Nature Reserve, the weather recently has been dull and miserable making photography challenging (for me anyway).....

Photographing glass is challenging. Infuriating. Rewarding? I’ve shot this wine glass many times and each time I get a completely different result. Should you backlight or side light or in this case a bit of both? I used a green plastic bag over my LED light to create the colour, the other hues are refractions and reflections from random objects on the table.

I tried a whole array of subjects this week, up to the wire on time again!

HMM

A challenging setting with incredible backlighting, but one you can produce really nice results from.

Nth Stradbroke Island, east coast Australia. The waves were choppy, rough, and fast to break. After some challenging storm surfing, I came in and took a few shots of the wild ocean surf... you can see another surfer friend of mine (a guy this time... see first shot before) at the bottom left takeoff point, riding a wave, a bit cautiously as this was one was so choppy and the wild surf is starting to flatten out a bit .... awesome fun, workout and being one-with-nature!

It’s challenging to get a decent photo from a boat that’s rocking and rolling and being drenched in water. Visitors touring the Stirling Waterfall from a boat get the famous Milford ‘glacial facial’ as a reward for visiting. Is it worth it? Absolutely!

There were some dead trees which were not too tall that the Bee-eaters loved to perch on. However, if I wanted to have the sun at my back, which is ideal, I would've gotten most photos with the sky as the background. So I either chose better lighting and worse background or better background and worse light. You can tell from this photo which I chose. But that wasn't the only challenge or problem. Soon enough, I would find myself on the edge of giving up......

Challenging to find a time with relatively few people in the photo!

Let me add I love the things this lens do with red tones...

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️❤️❤️

Some challenging canoe balancing for this one...;-) Our weather has been spectacular, sunny with record highs moving toward 70F. And not one hard frost or even the suggestion of snow which is unheard of this late in the year. Not too many complaints to be heard...except from the deer hunters, whose season opened this weekend and who tend to rely on colder temps and snow for tracking purposes. Sorry guys...oh, and gals.

Often it is so challenging to maintain our innocence or just look at the world with the same wonder and purity as when we were untouched by it. This song reminds me of my younger self, that part of in all of us that has remained untainted and whole, capable of being true , authentic .

Once upon a time

Once when you were mine

I remember skies

Reflected in your eyes

I wonder where you are

I wonder if you think about me

Once upon a time

In your wildest dreams

Once the world was new

Our bodies felt the morning dew

That greets the brand new day

We couldn't tear ourselves away

I wonder if you care

I wonder if you still remember

Once upon a time

In your wildest dreams

And when the music plays

And when the words are touched with sorrow

When the music plays

I hear the sound I had to follow

Once upon a time

Once beneath the stars

The universe was ours

Love was all we knew

And all I knew was you

I wonder if you know

I wonder if you think about it

Once upon a time

In your wildest dreams

Somewhat more challenging hike from Bezau to Winterstaude - about 8 hours / 20 km (13 mi) and about 1300 (4300 ft) elevation gain. Few people on the way - we like that. The weather doesn't look so good - but optimal visibility. Perfect temperature for hiking.

A challenging bird to shoot in flight and this ones off my target list now for birds in flight. While the flight path is predictable, the bird is pretty fast and pretty small, so its hard to get into focus. Just found the right place to get the action and waited. I wasn't disappointed with several of them flying over the lake taking turns to catch flies hovering above.

A Northern Mockingbird assumes a defensive stance near a nest.

Sparring is a serious game amongst deer with stags bowing their heads to signal that they are about to headbutt. Here the slightly smaller chestnut stag challenges the greyer dominant male but soon defers and is put firmly in his place by the latter. Game over!

Thank you all for your kind responses.

Challenging to keep this furbaby still, got to be quick on the shutter button.

♫♫It's the most wonderful time of the year♫♩

Still 19 days to go. This year has been challenging to say the least. We didn't feel like putting up the Christmas Tree this year. However, there's still a lot of things to be thankful for.

Its challenging to walk through such a beautiful landscape like the elbe sandstone mountains, were behind every corner a fascinating view is waiting and keep the eye to the smaler details. But its worth it. Like here, where after the rain on the rocks a small waterfall is been formed.

Challenging the tide on Cofete Beach

A native of Mexico, this berylline hummingbird made a rare appearance in Southeast Arizona recently. Though not the first time in the area, they don't stray too often. While we had many views of this beautiful bird, the lighting and opportunities were often challenging. This photo doesn't fully do justice to the colors of this bird but still shows off its distinctive plumage.

Descending the Peak of Escalavrado was a challenging but rewarding experience. The trail is steep and winding, with many exposed spots. However, the views from the top are breathtaking, making the challenge worthwhile.

The trail started at the Paraíso da Serra restaurant, on the Rio-Teresópolis Highway. The hike to the top took about 4:40 hours (roundtrip). The trail is well marked, but it's important to be aware of your surroundings and be careful not to get lost.

At the top, we were rewarded with stunning views of the Serra dos Órgãos. We saw the God's Finger, the Carboy, the Bell Stone and other mountains. We also saw Rio de Janeiro and Guanabara Bay.

The descent was faster than the ascent, but it was still challenging. It is important to descend carefully and avoid rushing. The descent back to the Paraíso da Serra restaurant took about 2 hours.

The descent of the Peak of Escalavrado was an experience I will never forget. It was a testament to my strength and determination, and the views from the top were breathtaking.

Lever:

The knee is the largest joint in our body. It is vulnerable to injury because it is relatively exposed, supports the weight of the body, and, as the center of a lever, transmits and multiplies the forces applied to it.

The main force is the weight of the body. By the lever mechanism, when flexing the knee, the average body weight is multiplied 5 to 7 times.

Going up and down mountains puts a lot of strain on the knees. When movement is done frequently, injuries can result.

Going down peaks forces the knee more than going up because the joint, on the way down, needs to brake the body's weight before taking the next step.

Woodland photography is always challenging, especially this time of year when the sun is shining creating loads of contrast and highlights. There is also more clutter to deal with, as trees, ferns and weeds are sprouting and growing, which can interfere with your compositions.

However the leaf canopy can also provide separation from the sky, which over winter might provide too much of a distraction in your shot. Additionally it provides shade and opportunities for sun stars.

This was a new location for me and one to which I shall return when conditions are more moody.

This is a challenging stretch of the coast path, as there is a series of these monster chalk cliffs. When I was younger I used to race up and down them quite enthusiastically, but nowadays I'm more inclined to cheat. If you veer off inland, there's a flat stretch you can walk along and then easily come out on to whichever viewpoint you choose.

However, on this occasion (according to the photographic record), I did actually do down to the beach here and then climb up that next cliff, where there were some good pics to be had ;-)

A group of elderly men accept this sailing challenge, and the wind has it's way!

An incredibly challenging bird to shoot in flight due to the highly unpredictable flight pattern. There is a place - a bridge - that hosts 100's of swallows and dozens of Swifts. We spent an hour challenging ourselves and trying to get some good shots - and I did - less than 10 shots out of 100's.

In this series of shots, I photographed several swifts carrying some feathers back to their nests. I am not sure where they got it since there were no flock of birds anywhere - atleast with white feathers.

The Swifts are an extraordinary species of birds pushing the limits of what we know of birds. Some of the swift species are known to fly for their life-time (4-6 years) barely touching ground. They are known to sleep while flying, mate while flying and come to the nest only to lay eggs. Some Swift species are recorded flying for almost 9-10 months straight.

Thanks in advance for your views and feedback.

Easily one of the most challenging photos I've taken in my relatively brief photographic experience. Fog had not totally lifted by late afternoon and snow was continuing to fall. It felt like my fingers had fallen off (slight exaggeration) in the sub-freezing temps while mounting the camera and lens to the tripod. The challenge, however, came in deciding how to capture this rather magical scene. As a C.S. Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien fan, whose mythical prose paint vivid, even startling images, I let my imagination loose. What it came up with was a high-key attempt (Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 lens on a Nikon D750, ISO 160, 24mm, f/4, 0.8sec): Over exposed in the camera. Back in the comfort of my den with a cup of hot chocolate close at hand, I processed my images through Lightroom and came up with what you see here. Yes, I took artistic license, that kind of license, though, I think Lewis and Tolkien would have relished.

Thank you so much for viewing. I really appreciate your kind and helpful comments! They mean a lot. Best to each of you!

I have written before about how challenging I find it to be on ‘bird alert’ and, say, ‘insect alert’ at the same time. I find it hard to switch from an awareness of the sky and the trees and signs of movement in shrubs and leaves, to an alertness of the immediate ‘macro’ surroundings.

How I didn’t step on this creature is something of a miracle, given the difficulty I have. This hatchling was trying to get to the Lake, I suspect, but where it came from is a bit of a mystery. Not anywhere close. It was alone. And it was still a ways from water when I found it (thanks in part to the setting sun). I secured a few images while it powered itself past me to a slope into the water, and then it was gone.

Aristotle said that something was alive if it could move itself, whether by growing or by moving from place to place. This hatchling, which could have easily fit in the palm of my hand with space left over, was the most condensed expression of life I have seen in a while. The determination to get to that place and the distance it had travelled was pretty amazing.
