Does every artist wish to have their work lasting forever and let the future generations appreciate it?
Chalk painting is something that could last may be 24 hours or two days the longest?
Yet the artists put up their best to show you. I am happy to see the artists at work and to witness the process how the artwork is being created.
Happy Canada Day!!

I found a photo frame at my thrift store that looks like a playscale armoire for $3. I finished rehabbing it for my dolls this week.
1. Removed the glass, back stand, and metal hardware.
2. Built up the photo area with cardboard.
3. Used gesso to stiffen the cardboard.
4. Spray painted the whole thing with gray primer (suitable for plastic and other surfaces).
5. Painted with gray chalk paint. Dry brushed it with cream chalkpaint.
6. Sealed with matte spray.
7. Added a little silver paint to the handles.
Last couple weeks I painted my hallway and up-cycled my dresser I've had for years. I even repainted the figurines years ago. It was a lot of work and fun but I'm exhausted now:-)
Taken at the I Madonnari Festival in Santa Barbara. Each year on Memorial Day week-end several artists participate in the I Modanari Festival in front of the Mission steps in Santa Barbara. It is a fundraiser for the Children's Network.
This painting didn't win any awards but it got my vote! The whole thing is flat but appears to be 3 dimensional. We had a marked out place to stand and were told to hold our cameras at eye level. This is the view from that angle.
The plants show where the boundaries begin and there is a faint chalk line on the left.
"These are a few of My Favorite Things."
We knew this one was going to be good when we saw the eyes going in first - and it won one of the three major prizes. The theme this year was "The 90's" and this is Leeloo, from the movie, "The Fifth Element".
(Week 18 of My Favorite Things, personal challenge.)

I've been working on redoing the Barbie farm stand that was available this year. Those colors were not working for me and it had indentations for holding accessories which were annoying.
I spray painted it first then used gray and white chalkpaint to make it look shabby. I raised it and made more produce crates from popsicle and craft sticks. I also used chalk paint on them.
I repainted the scale dial with black nail polish.
This is the cabinet I just posted in my latest Blythe pic. I found this gutted wooden nursery clock at the Salvation Army and turned it into a playscale cabinet or podium with cardboard, a popsicle stick, and chalkpaint. The Barbie coffee shows the scale.
Black and white seems to be even more challenging than color in chalk painting on the asphalt surface of a parking lot. This painting is almost completed except for his black jacket. It was my favorite of the very few B/W entries.
*(these are hard to get in proportion as they take up a parking space. There's an high observation rolling platform for the event photographers to get their shots high over the paintings but the rest of us have to try angles and holding our cameras out over the pictures. We can't stand on the drawings at all.)

I chalk painted an old window frame and a very old sewing machine drawer .. planted the herbs in canning jars ,,,, thought it made for a nice little photo,,, hope you like it
Have a great weekend and thanks for your visits
I tried something different here and used a Lens Baby Sweet 50 Optic to try to block out all the distractions, but still giver her a sense of place. A fun lens to play with sometime.
"After seeing this snake for 3 days and he hadn't even moved I decided to show everyone how brave I am. Piece of cake! I also like sharing the chalk art attention and photobombing a bit.
(taken after the judging of course; I couldn't put one paw on a painting before.)"
More about the artist below, sorry, I don't have a photo of this one in progress.
We have the sad news that Gord Downie passed away yesterday.
The following is the original story about the picture.

James is making the portrait of Gord Downie, the lead singer of famous rock band Tragically Hip, who was diagnosed with brain cancer recently.
I tried to capture him with his work in progress.
Wish you a great weekend!

That was the theme for this year's Arts Alive Festival and this artist took it literally. You can see him below painting himself into his nature picture.
