Agate nodule from Kentucky, USA. (cut slice)

This is the interior of an agate nodule. "Agate" is a rockhound/collector term for irregularly- & concentrically-layered masses of microcrystalline quartz. Individual layers consist of translucent or opaque, microcrystalline, fibrous quartz called chalcedony. Impurities in different layers cause variations in color. Many agate masses are simply geodes that have completely filled up with quartz. Common agate colors are clearish-whitish-grayish, brownish-red, and yellowish-brown. Greens, blues, and purples are rarer colors. Many commercial agates with greens and blues and purples are often dyed (faked).

Geologic context: unrecorded / undisclosed (but possibly from the Borden Formation, Lower Mississippian)

Locality: unrecorded / undisclosed site in Kentucky, USA

One of the bestselling books of all time, the literary classic, "She", was penned by H Rider Haggard in 1887 and remains, to this day, an impressive epitome of well-written imaginative literature. The title is short for "She Who Must Be Obeyed", a translation of the Arabic honorific used for Ayesha by the Amahagger, a tribe whom she has enslaved. With the main character supposedly inspired by the Balobedu Rain Queen Masalanabo Modjadji.

Mysterious, gorgeous, scary, elusive, passionate, powerful, fearful and desirable, Ayesha is the prototypical all-powerful female figure.

This wristwrapper, She Who Must Be Obeyed, is a lush adaptation of the novel's theme of power + life, death + reincarnation, of sexuality, and of fate.

Very RARE, very HIGH GRADE Russian Purple Charoite Briolettes abound in this design - an entire strand, truth be told - the colour *purple* was the only way to go to accurately interpret the themes of strength, intrigue, sensuality, ruthlessness and lust.

The centrestone here is a large, impressive nugget of Mystic Blue Grey Quartz weighing a hefty 27 Carats. Yes, this is my shard of Amenartas :) and it's been simply but prettily accented with contrasting trims of Rhodolite Garnet and Brazilian Blue Apatite.

Remember those super RARE, highly coveted Russian Purple Charoite Briolettes? These drape sensuously around the wrist, cavorting quite shamelessly with Mystic Black Topaz Disco Balls and Briolettes of Polished Kyanite, Moss Aquamarine, RARE Grape Chalcedony and Colombian Emeralds.

She Who Must Be Obeyed would be incomplete without the presence of Labradorite. Here, that powerful gemstone makes its appearance in the form of Mystic Briolettes, Polished Rounds as well as Onion Briolettes with super schiller.

Subtle colour surfaces in Ruby Rounds, and Ovals of Sapphire and Blue Apatite.

The dynamic duo of Lobster Claw Clasp and extension chain effortlessly enables this piece to be adjusted from 7" to 9.25". Owing to her decadent clusters, she best fits wrists sized from 5.5" to 7.25".

A wee note about the polishing - I intentionally buffed specific bits only and allowed others to remain darkly sexy in order to illustrate, yes you got it, the play of dark versus light.

Agatized coral from the Tertiary of Georgia, USA.

Parts of Georgia and Florida are known for having geodized, agatized corals. The original coral skeletons were composed of aragonite (CaCO3, calcium carbonate), a polymorph of calcite. The fossil corals have since been silicified and geodized, resulting in chalcedony-lined cavities / vugs.

Thie example is remarkable for its rainbow colors.

A mineral is a naturally-occurring, solid, inorganic, crystalline substance having a fairly definite chemical composition and having fairly definite physical properties. At its simplest, a mineral is a naturally-occurring solid chemical. Currently, there are over 5700 named and described minerals - about 200 of them are common and about 20 of them are very common. Mineral classification is based on anion chemistry. Major categories of minerals are: elements, sulfides, oxides, halides, carbonates, sulfates, phosphates, and silicates.

The silicates are the most abundant and chemically complex group of minerals. All silicates have silica as the basis for their chemistry. "Silica" refers to SiO2 chemistry. The fundamental molecular unit of silica is one small silicon atom surrounded by four large oxygen atoms in the shape of a triangular pyramid - this is the silica tetrahedron - SiO4. Each oxygen atom is shared by two silicon atoms, so only half of the four oxygens "belong" to each silicon. The resulting formula for silica is thus SiO2, not SiO4.

The simplest & most abundant silicate mineral in the Earth's crust is quartz (SiO2). All other silicates have silica + impurities. Many silicates have a significant percentage of aluminum (the aluminosilicates).

Quartz (silicon dioxide/silica - SiO2) is the most common mineral in the Earth's crust. It is composed of the two most abundant elements in the crust - oxygen and silicon. It has a glassy, nonmetallic luster, is commonly clearish to whitish to grayish in color, has a white streak, is quite hard (H≡7), forms hexagonal crystals, has no cleavage, and has conchoidal fracture. Quartz can be any color: clear, white, gray, black, brown, pink, red, purple, blue, green, orange, etc.

Purple quartz is called amethyst. The coloring agent for amethyst is not agreed upon. Some workers say that it is due to Fe+4 impurity, some say the impurity is Fe+3, and others say it is Mn.

The cluster of purplish rounded masses seen here is "grape agate" or "grape chalcedony". In reality, it's finely crystalline amethyst, although analysis has shown that purple chalcedony is also present.

This material appears to be hydrothermal in origin and occurs along the altered/degraded margins of Miocene-aged, porphyritic trachyandesite pillow lavas.

A celebrity and femme fatale, Luisa Casati Stampa di Soncino was an Italian heiress, muse, and patroness of the arts in early 20th Century Europe. The younger daughter of a wealthy cotton manufacturer, Luisa was born in Milan to a life of luxury. She captivated artists and literati figures alike. And her famous eccentricities dominated and delighted European society for nearly three decades.

Her soirées at the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, on Grand Canal in Venice are legendary. Indeed, she was somewhat of a legend amongst her contemporaries. She astonished Venetian society by parading with a pair of leashed cheetahs and wearing live snakes as jewellery.

The beautiful and extravagant hostess died in London in 1957 and was fittingly buried wearing not only her black and leopardskin finery but a pair of false eyelashes. As the concept of dandy was expanded in the 20th Century to include women, the Marchesa Casati fitted the utmost female example by saying, "I want to be a living work of art".

And indeed you were, bella, indeed you were.

Fit for a goddess, my Luisa La Marchesa Casati Cuff is a tactile interpretation of all things indulgent, opulent and pampered.

A sumptuous bed of Purple Bollywood Brocade has been pleated and adorned with two differing Mourning Black Laces, both equally divine, and then trimmed with a third flourish of Black Lace towards the bottom, to create the perfect ménage à trois. All Victorian, but of course.

Crowning this lush confection is the perfect Antique Shield Pendant with what resembles a Coat of Arms motif. Such majestic glory is exquisitely accented with a single Polished Pink Chalcedony Briolette. To the left and right of this beauty are swirls of White Seed Pearls as well as the most breathtaking Kenyan Pink Rubies.

The final touch of the unexpected? Swags of more Seed Pearls at the hemline.

Lined with Lilac Italian Dupioni Silk, LUISA LA MARCHESA CASATI measures approximately 3.25" tall by 5.5" across and secures with Vintage Metal Buttons. This piece comfortably fits wrists sized from 5" all the way to about 7.5".

All fabrics and findings used in Sheela Goh Couture designs (unless indicated otherwise) are antique and over 100 years old. In fact, some bits are authentic Edwardian and Victorian. Seriously. So please, do wear her with care and respect.
