Since early medieval times there has been a church in Shrewsbury dedicated to St Chad, first Bishop of Mercia in the 7th century. By the end of the 18th century the large but ageing building had fallen into disrepair, and cracks had appeared in the tower. The great engineer, Thomas Telford, advised that it was in danger of collapse, and he was right. One morning in 1788 the parishioners awoke to find they had a pile of rubble but no church.
After much argument a new site was found on the derelict town wall, and the Scottish architect George Steuart, who had designed nearby Attingham Park and a church in Wellington, was commissioned. He submitted various designs, and although the Parochial Church Council preferred a rectangular one, ‘due to a misunderstanding’ he actually completed a circular plan that had been considered but rejected. Time was short, however, and it became the final design. Stones from old St Chad’s were used as foundations and the foundation stone was laid on St Chad’s Day, 2 March 1790 and the new church opened on 19th August 1792. On November 15th 1809 Charles Darwin was baptised in St Chad’s Church.

I had such a fun session with Chad & Patrick last night. Lots of laughs were had. They've been married now for almost 5 years, and they're the sweetest couple. This is a sneak peek at their session : )

…….Went to Shrewsbury today, fairly quiet and all very bright - nice to be dry (and not flooded!!!) Views of St Chads can be had in many a back street in town but this one I’d not noticed before! So I made this my #064 shot of the day, taken on my phone in Apple RAW & edited in Lightroom. Alan:-)

This used to be the 6th largest lake on Earth. Can you believe it? Now, lake Chad is a desert. #BlueDot

Chad Yard soldiers on. Despite the incredibly low traffic levels on this end of the Poor Fork Branch, I was fortunate to shoot an empty train tied down at Chad. This train had been staged to head back down the branch to load at NRG.
Some microbes live more than 1 km under Earth's surface. Could we detect such life forms on Mars?

I met Chad Michaels last Friday. She loved my cartoon and told he she was using it as her phone wallpaper! So starstruck! We've been Tweeting each other since. Haha.
Another thing I had built for Star Wars Day 2012 Toronto. The reason I built a Chad Vader MOC (See show here) is because the creators of the show were there. And as you can see, I also got them to sign it.

I met Chad as I walked home from work. It was pretty cold today and Chad was hoping someone would help him out with a few bucks for some food. I didn't mind and gave him a fiver. In response he asked if I wanted to take his photo. We talked for a few minutes about the camera and also how most people are pretty rude to him. He was surprised that I was willing to talk and was thankful for my politeness. I asked him how he'd like to pose for the shot and he came up with this one.
