Leyendecker created a series of twenty children enjoying bowls of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes as part of a major advertising campaign in 1915-1917.
Created for a swap-bot swap that required the postcards to have at least 3 layers. Mine ended up with 6-cereal box, gesso, acrylic paint, spray paint, paper napkin from Fiona's stash, and a bird from a discarded nature encyclopedia.
I sent this card to my brother, Dustin, who's birthday is today.
And I have a new niece as of 5:30 tonight. 8 lb 11 oz Isabelle had a birthday (literally) today!
This "model" of the Apollo was available on the back of the Cocoa Puffs box back in 1969. I found a bad copy on line, but used it for measurement and tried to recreate it. The pic is of the finished model, so it does work.

i was quite happy when it was announced that heath won the oscar. i've been apart of quite a few conversations about his nomination. there is a guy who i work with who thinks that heath would have never been nominated if he were still alive. as stunning as his performance was as the joker, would this really be true?
1975 Post Cereal Haunted House Halloween Record which was available on the back of Honeycombs cereal boxes.
Telling you guys about my "Stage Scenery and Props" set reminded me that I never uploaded this year's stage props I made. These were made for a production of "Cats". The director wanted huge garbage pieces, so I made a couple.
Sorry so many, I just wanted to get these online and into the set while I was thinking of it!
Cream of Wheat has long been considered a popular early option by parents—especially in the mid-20th century. Its smooth texture, iron content, and easy digestibility made it a natural fit for transitioning infants to solids, and some parenting guides and home economics materials from the era recommended it once babies reached about 6 months of age.
Modern parenting resources still mention it as a suitable early cereal—provided it's prepared without added sugar or salt and introduced after checking for wheat allergies.
The 1937 ad is a perfect example of how mid-century food marketing wrapped nutritional advice in a warm, almost storybook-like narrative. The imagery—wiggly toes, dolls, and teddy bears—tugs on the heartstrings, but the copy does the heavy lifting. Cream of Wheat is not only wholesome and gentle but practically doctor-prescribed, leaning on phrases like “your doctor will probably advise…” and highlighting approval by the AMA’s Council on Foods. It’s not just breakfast—it’s a safeguard for vitality and growth. Exaggeration ruled the day.

I've been working on a handmade journal made out of recycled cereal boxes after I saw a tutorial on YouTube recently. The pages are also to be made from cereal boxes but seeing as I don't have any empty cereal boxes right now, I may just have to improvise.
Michael Jordan worse this jersey in the 1996 NBA Finals. The team finished 72-10 that year and Jordan was named NBA MVP, All-Star Game MVP, and NBA Finals MVP.
Jordan has appeared on the cover of Wheaties boxes more than any other athlete. This box celebrates the 1996 NBA Championship.
The Sports: Leveling the Playing Field exhibit, part of the Community Galleries on the third floor of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, explores the contributions of athletes, both on and off the field. Because sports were among the first and most high-profile organizations to accept African Americans on terms of relative equality, sports have a unique role in American culture.
The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), administered by the Smithsonian Institute, was established in December 2003 and opened its permanent home in September 2016. The 350,000-square-foot, 10-story (five above and five below ground) was built to the postmodern design of Phil Freelon's Freelon Group, Sir David Adjaye's Adjaye Associates and Davis Brody Bond. The above ground floors feature an inverted step pyramid surrounded by a bronze architectural scrim, which reflects a crown used in Yoruba culture. With more than 40,000 objects in its collection, although only about 3,500 items are on display, the NMAAHC is the world's largest museum dedicated to African-American history and culture.
The Smithsonian Institution, an educational and research institute and associated museum complex, administered and funded by the government of the United States and by funds from its endowment, contributions, and profits from its shops and its magazines, was established in 1846. Although concentrated in Washington DC, its collection of over 136 million items is spread through 19 museums, a zoo, and nine research centers from New York to Panama.
I've been slacking with the mailart365 thing.
This one is gesso and acrylic paint on cereal box with a napkin seahorse and vintage book seagrass.
more than compositon, more than design, more than pattern and "artsy" stuff, i try to teach my "kids" to be responsible and to care about the world. yah, i'm big into recycling in my classroom. i think it's really important for them to look at things that might usually be trash, and to turn them into something beautiful.
Not a character box, but one I very much remember as a child. For some reason, my mother would eat Raisin Bran w/ CoffeeRich coffee creamer instead of milk (no other cereals, just Raisin Bran). I thought that that was how it was supposed to be eaten and never understood why I'd always get a stomachache after eating it. I'm getting a stomachache right now just thinking about it.
