It's late evening. As I gaze at this image I find myself fantasizing about boarding that magical looking little boat, hoisting the sails and setting a course for Neverland. I'm not trying to escape reality but a little magic is sometimes just what a life needs. Especially on a dark chilly November evening.

On the water, where the ocean meets the shore. A foggy summer morning, about to be consumed by the sun. The horizon is invisible, obscured by a dazzling combination of sun and marine layer. A waitress goes about readying her restaurant for the lunch crowd. At first I wonder if she is desensitized to this scene, because of her daily exposure to it. And then it hits me. No, she is part of it.

Summertime, and the livin' is easy. Or so they say. If it ain't easy, at least it's colorful. The Venetians, a popular row of vacation rentals in Capitola, guarantees it.

Taken in Morro bay right by my future college I'll attend next year.

Cool and gray. The perfect weather for a steaming bowl of clam chowder, and a crusty loaf of sourdough bread. Throw in a malty dopplebock and I could sit wharf side for a millennium. Welcome to my view.

Happy Fence Friday everyone.

I waited a little while for this light to shine through the clouds guys. I usually don't wait long because I like to work on as many compositions as a I can find in the short amount of time while the light is good. I still managed to capture a few more dramatic light shots here on this short afternoon trip.

The archetecture here, is typical of waterside establishments across the California coastal communities--Spanish with little pieces of modernity tossed in to create the perfect vibe for attracting paying customers. I'm sure the margaritas have nothing to do with it.

I'm definitely including this scene in my someday to be published moodily romantic psychedelic thriller surfer novel. I'm thinking this is where the high drama ending comes down. Surfers and pier pilings just aren't good bedfellows. I just have to start writing it.

Monterey Bay was blanketed by low hanging fog on this summer morning-- another perfect Central California Coastal day in the making. There are some places where bright sunny skies just don't work. This is one of them. I'm sure the locals would vehemently disagree with me. After all, everyone needs a little sunshine in their lives.

I was pounding the pavement in Pacific Grove when this colorful little cottage caught my eye. Talk about vibrant colors. I admit, a little sliding helped it along.

A typical photo shoot at Solvang won't be complete without this ubiquitous windmill in all its glory - with three different exposures merged into HDR via Photomatix, plus a little adjustment to the brighter side using PS CS5.

Morning. My favorite time to be out on the prowl. If it were to include a soundtrack, it would be Miles Davis's album, "Kind of Blue."

A nicely weathered fishing trawler lists to its port side in Monterey Bay during the early morning hours. I figured there was probably a burly sailor below the deck who was sleeping one off before heading out to sea for another load of shrimp.

Early morning on the Monterey Commercial Wharf, the fog so thick it stuck to my skin. Not a soul was about. Even the seagulls were sleeping in. The only sounds were a pair of seals barking under the pier, and the clang of the ship bells as the boats bobbed on the tide. The perfect morning to enjoy a thermos of hot coffee while spraying the camera around.

The absolutely great Highway 25 --- no traffic, great curves, great scenery, acceptably warm, and good breakfast to be had in Hollister --- doesn't get any better.....

And Happy Fence Friday.......yes, there's a fence in there.....

Green Valley Road (California Hwy 46) toward the Pacific Coast has some spectacular and beautiful views of the rolling hills of California's central coast. This photo was taken from a roadside turnout at 1700-feet (518 m) elevation. It's looking south toward Morro Bay which is shrouded in fog, providing a wonderful layered effect. The hazy dome in the center upper third is Morro Rock a 581-foot (177 m) ancient volcanic plug.

Sunset View from Hurricane Point: A favorite stop along the Pacific Coast Highway is the overlook at Hurricane Point, providing views of the Big Sur Coastline north and south as well as the Pacific Ocean with the ships, whales, and dolphins traveling the coast. In this image, I focused on the north view of the Bixby Bridge, Rocky Point, and off in the distance Point Lobos. Oh, what a grand and beautiful view it is at sunset, with the sun casting warm hues on the horizon and landscape of this rugged coastline, providing a profound feeling of thanksgiving for God's splendid creation.

Nestled in pre-historic hills. Once home to giant sea turtles. Now ... total serenity

Flying high, way up in the sky, the Pelican Air Force practices maneuvers near Monterey, while a lone fishing boat bobs in the surf. I love to see pelicans in flight, but a small bobbing boat on the ocean conjures unpleasant thoughts of motion sickness and other sea related maladies. Guess I'm a land lubber at heart.

Shot from a moving cable car looking down California Street toward Grant in Chinatown, where I got on. When I transferred to the more popular Powell/Hyde line, I could hardly get any photographs because the car was so full. This view, with the Bay Bridge in the distance, is a favorite of photographers, and I've taken it quite a few times. This is the first from a cable car, however.

About a 45 minute drive south of Big Sur, CA is Limekiln State Park, where there are huge abandoned Lime Kilns and Limekiln Creek Falls. Making your way up to the Limekiln Creek Falls trail, you'll come across a waterfall over a fallen tree that I refer to as "Log Falls". There's a bench nearby to take a break and enjoy the sound and sight of this little waterfall.
