Oracabessa, Jamaica

Our small group of five were the only visitors at Firefly. We wondered if, perhaps, Noel Coward, is unknown to some of the younger tourists in Jamaica. The house is unchanged since the day Noel Coward died and clearly in desperate need of restoration...although the site is beautifully maintained. It saddens me to think how it will fare in the future.

Getting these while I can. JRF's EF65 electric locomotives are slowly being pulled from regular freight service. Originally built in the 1960's, and with their last mass overhaul in 2022, these boxcabs have more or less hit the end of their service life. Due to that, any EF65 hauled train, especially on JR East, will garner the attention of tori-tetsu.

On the north end of the Tokaido Main Line, two freight trains are EF65 hauled. However, they're scheduled to run during nocturnal hours. Now that summer is near, early sunrises have given the opportunity to shoot these rarified locomotives in daylight. Here, a group of 10-15 railfans and I shoot EF65-2092 exiting Komekami Tunnel, just south of Odawara.

Celebrity Infinity at Canada Place

Celebrity Infinity is a Millennium Class cruise ship owned and operated by Celebrity Cruises. During the summer she cruises Alaska, and during the winter South America.

On June 3 2016, a few days after taking this pic, the Infinity was docking in Ketchikan, Alaska, and crashed into the dock on the port side, causing a hole in the ship's hull above the water line, and heavily damaging the dock. Winds were gusting to 45 miles per hour from the ships starboard side at the time of the accident, which accelerated the ships approach. There were no injuries. In addition to the damage to the ship, the collision caused $2-3 million dollars in damage to the dock.

EWS' celebrity 'Great Western' green Class 60 No.60081 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel' heading the 6M46 Lackenby to Hardendale empty limestone hopper wagons alongside the eastern end of Tees Yard on 27th April 2002. Just under two years later, whilst in charge of a Llandudno Junction to Crewe engineer's working, it suffered a crankcase explosion, inflicting serious damage to the engine and its compartment, and was subsequently placed into store. It has never turned a wheel under its own power since, and since then languished at the head of a long line of stored class members in Toton yard, but has more recently been moved to the area of the depot paint shop, along with other long-stored class members. The 'small print' on the BT poster proclaims "free evening and weekend UK calls for £18.50 a month by direct debit including line rental" - quite interesting two decades on!

There’s a celebrity behind that screen on stage and this crowd gathered for an opportunity to meet him and take a photo.

After finding out who it was, I realized that I had to idea who this dude was.

So… through the power of Photoshop and imagination, I created my own story-line…

One of my Flickr contacts has a series of yacht hull abstracts that I find fascinating and I’m not the only one who has proposed that these abstracts would make a great exhibition. I superimposed one of these abstracts and imagined that this is a gathering to meet him as he does his world tour of yacht abstract art… Matt, sorry in advance for taking this liberty.

Here’s his Yacht Abstract album:
