The light in the front room of our house isn’t really my style, but once I saw it turned on at night I liked it more.

Foyer: important double-height entrance hall dominated by an honor staircase with marbles of different colors and crowned by French stained glass.
Golden Hall: richly decorated according to French style, it is a permanent center for concert chamber music, conferences and parallel exhibitions to the activity of the Main hall.
Main Hall: The most important hall in the country, famous throughout the world for its acoustics and decorative richness. The most relevant personalities of lyric, ballet and music have passed through its stage." Previous text from: teatrocolon.org.ar/en/visit-us/guided-tours
"The Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires city is considered one of the best theaters in the world. Recognized for its acoustics and for the artistic value of its construction, its current building turned 100 years old in 2008. Located between the streets of Cerrito, Viamonte, Tucumán and Libertad, in the heart of the city of Buenos Aires, it was inaugurated on May 25, 1908 with the opera Aida by Giuseppe Verdi.
This building replaces the old Teatro Colón built in front of the Plaza de Mayo where today stands the Banco Nación. The construction of the new building took around 20 years, its foundation stone was placed on May 25, 1890, with the intention of inaugurating it before October 12, 1892 coinciding with the fourth centenary of the discovery of America. The initial project belonged to the architect Francesco Tamburini and, upon his death in 1891, it was continued and modified by his partner, the architect VÃctor Meano, author of the palace of the National Congress. The works advanced until 1894, but then stagnated for financial reasons. In 1904, after the death of Meano, the government commissioned the Belgian Jules Dormal to complete the work. Dormal introduced some structural modifications and definitely left his stamp on the French style decoration.
At the end of 1907, the first lease of the Teatro Colón was signed, although the works of completion of the building were delayed in relation to the date set for the inauguration of the hall, on May 25, 1908. In any case, in that date was the first opera performed in the main hall of the Theater by the Great Italian Lyric Company, although with some unfinished spaces of the building such as the Golden Hall and the iron canopies on Libertad and Cerrito streets." DESIGN DETAILS
I've always enjoyed the shape of the Moravian star, so I have come out with a mini collection in the vein of a more fantasy / vintage look. For Syndicate Sunday I have 4 colourations of this type of style in ceiling pendant form and each pack comes with 12 lights. Basically you are getting 4 chain lengths in 3 overall light sizes so you can choose based on your ceiling height. The lights have an on/off touch function with subtle glow, full brightness, and ambient environmental lighting included to offer more realism. You can mix and match these as well for colour, size and lengths. These are an unique option if you are wanting a different light style in your space.

I am exhausted, and I haven't done much this weekend. I have mostly rested, gone to a movie yesterday, went to church today, and now I am watching the Oscars. I don't have the energy to live blog it. I'm thinking that I really need to start up my Netflix subscription again, because there are some movies I haven't seen that I would like to see, such as Enchanted and The Savages.
This weekend has been rough. My uncle died. While I am not emotionally close to this uncle, he is my mom's youngest sibling. He was in his late 50s. He had a heart attack. It wasn't his first heart attack, but this one took his life. Apparently on my mom's side of the family, men die young, so this continues the theme. The death of my mom's sibling has gotten her talking about her own mortality and plans for the end of her life, which is hard and important all at once.
My grandmother is back in the hospital. She had problems with her heart recently, and then again the other day. When my mom and sister called to tell me about my uncle, I was expecting them to tell me that my grandmother had passed away. I'm glad it wasn't her, but I certainly wasn't ready to hear about my uncle.
I don't mean to trivialize death by comparing the death of my uncle to the recent death of my hamster, but the death of my pet made me think about how life ends with such lack of fanfare. When I was trying to wake up my hamster, it was hard to distinguish between death and a hamster that was still asleep. It seems like death should be more obvious, but it takes a minute to register. You have to talk to yourself about it to make sure you recognize what has happened.
What I know is that when my uncle was having a heart attack, he didn't know what to do, so he called each of his children and stepdaughter and left a message on their cell phones telling them this. He finally got ahold of a friend who called 9-1-1 and was with him (in the hospital?) when he died.
I can't imagine how that would have felt, to have missed that phone call from your parent, or to have answered that phone call. Would you have been able to think about how to help, what to do? I am so sad for my cousins who lost their father far too soon.

I named this photo which I took in a friend's apartment after a Deerhoof song. I also have to think of the cover artwork of Liars' self-titled album. Of course, this is just a lamp, it is no real chandelier.
the 6yrold and i taking a few last shots before the holiday decorations are put away . . . this photo, taken with both of us standing on the kitchen table, means two things: 1. the Authority was not home and 2. i was serious when i resolved to be more carefree in my postings, in this case posting a very technically flawed shot with both blown highlights and colorless, grainy shadows. oh but wait, why then have i posted it, you might ask. because i like it. indeed, i've become a wild and crazy guy.
I cropped this to square because I couldn't get any more of the lights in at the sides without lying down on the floor - and I was already getting enough funny looks! :oD

I like to set my window unit to "TurboCool" 'round the clock but how many people in Pittsburgh can afford to buy $25 bellydancing scarfs in this awful depression? Several of the best bellydance shows I ever saw were in Pittsburgh but even then the scarfs looked like they cost $10 tops.

The ceiling light in the laundry room at our house in Kitahiroshima. I liked the circles from the illumination onto the glass.

Light is from CB2, with hanging kit and ceiling medallion from the Home Depot. The light was originally a plug-in style, but I converted it to hard-wire, and hung it with the help of a friend.
This was my first adventure in electrical work, and it involved playing with slightly sketchy wiring in a 1910s rowhouse! Wheeee! :-)
