Lack of space in office can often result in a messy situation. And especially if you are looking on expanding your work force, you would need more space. It is not really possible to buy more space as the same may not be available all the time. The best possible way to accommodate your expanding work force at such a time is by making partitions in your office.

Pleasantly cosy in the guest WC with infrared heating

Infrared heating offers optimal possibilities in the guest toilet. Because regardless of whether you need a quick warmth when guests come to visit or you want to thermostat-control the temperature of the room for regular use - Vitramo has the right infrared heating for your application.

Often, for reasons of efficiency, it also makes no sense to extend central heating for a small guest toilet or for a bathroom that is only used temporarily or only for a certain period of time. And even in bathrooms that are not adequately supplied with heat by the existing heating system, the use of Vitramo infrared heaters is economical. The ecodesign-compliant Vitramo temperature control ensures comfortably tempered room surfaces in guest WCs and bathrooms at the individually specified time of use, irrespective of whether the devices in a room are currently operating or not. Remote control units with weekly clocks and adjustable daily schedules work in conjunction with radio receivers that switch the units on and off and, if necessary, with window contacts that interrupt the heating immediately when a window is opened. As long as the room is not in use, the controller integrated in the remote control unit maintains the selected basic temperature. Adapted to the user's daily routine, the temperature in the bathroom is then raised to the desired "comfort value" in time for an upcoming use.

The temperature of the surfaces in a room has a considerable influence on a person's perception of warmth. That is why Vitramo ceiling and wall infrared heaters work radiation-oriented and heat the surfaces in the room in such a differentiated way that they show no temperature differences or only slight temperature differences between them. The air in the room heats up evenly and almost without flow only when it comes into contact with these surfaces.

Infrared heating in a wooden house

Vitramo infrared heating and an efficiency house in solid wood or timber frame design are a perfect match. Even in houses with a heating requirement of less than 30 kWh/m², it is no longer a question of how much heat to supply to the room, b

ut whether heat is needed at all. Inert water-bearing heat delivery systems are already ruled out as components for this low demand due to their poor controllability. In addition, water-bearing heating systems only work particularly efficiently in continuous operation. A boiler quickly reaches its limits in partial load operation due to the low volume flows. Better, on the other hand, are small-format Vitramo heating elements evenly distributed on the ceiling or wall, which quickly heat the inner envelope surface by means of radiation when required, while only supplying the room with as much heat as is absolutely necessary for people to feel comfortable in it.

The back of the Vitramo infrared heater is effectively thermally insulated and completed by an aluminium cover that also encloses the sides. This means that it can also be installed on a wooden ceiling. In new buildings, care should be taken to ensure that the wooden panels are dry and, if possible, contain only a very low level of residual moisture. The heating element is mounted at a minimum distance of 180 cm from the floor.

Can infrared heating with electricity be approved and is it economical?

The low heating requirements of efficiency houses, the low purchase costs and the eligibility for subsidies of the technical system concept make a rethink on the subject of infrared heating possible, sensible and attractive. In combination with a photovoltaic system, a domestic hot water heat pump or, alternatively, instantaneous water heaters and controlled ventilation with heat recovery, the Vitramo infrared heating system already wins the overall heating cost comparison in residential buildings according to the KfW Efficiency House Standard 55.

Two very realistic oversized pails/buckets (constructed of lightweight materials) are mounted on opposite walls, near the ceiling. Out of one, water, frozen in time, pours out toward the floor below; out of the other water pours out and pools on the ceiling above.

The water is made of bunched, 1/2 mil drop cloths and held in place with an interior frame of stiff, white, coated wire.

Strong blue lights inside the buckets cause the denser water in and near the edges of the buckets to appear blue – that coloring diminishes and turns more white the further the water extends from the buckets.

A large (8-10 feet in diameter) mass of gently tangled, heavyweight fluorescent fishing line floats in space below the ceiling. It is lit from below by several strong black lights. The fishing line’s tensile strength and the mass’s several distributed suspension points keep the multitude of curves and arcs smooth and regular (no sagging or kinks) - a single, complex, uninterrupted, glowing path suggestive of the frenetic trajectories of incident bodies created in a particle accelerator.

Building Maintenance services need to deliver when required. A structure has a life, so to increase its durability; building maintenance is performed, so that the small problems do not create structural problems which could lead to collapsing of the structure in future. You should get building maintenance performed once in every five years.

Two mannequins wearing complete skydiving gear hover halfway between ceiling and floor – about 15 feet up. Clothing and hair have been set in a permanent “upswept” condition, indicating both velocity and air drag.

Using the ceiling as a passive video screen opens up many possibilities, from suggesting what might be seen if the ceiling weren't there to using the ceiling plane as a portal to other realities.

In the sketch I am portraying a linen or canvas projection surface suspended from the four upper corners of the space.

Possible imagery might include:

Moving cloud cover, seem from ground level looking up

Moving cloud cover, seen from altitude looking down

Low orbit flyover of earth, looking directly down onto the surface

Low orbit footage of mars, as though the open-topped building is in orbit around the planet

Footage captured looking up, from bottom of box with light-tight lid, which has been marked, "Open lid and look inside to be part of a video installation." When that footage is projected on the ceiling, it would appear that giant people are opening up the ceiling and peering down into the gallery.

Vitramo infrared heating provides permanent or temporary comfort in the living room. People only feel thermally comfortable when their heat balance is in equilibrium. Radiation-oriented Vitramo ceiling infrared heaters and wall infrared heaters heat sections of the room envelope in such a differentiated way that these show no temperature differences or only slight temperature differences between them. The result: people feel comfortable!

People's perception of warmth is not only considerably influenced by the temperature of the room air but also by that of the surfaces in a room. Every surface of a body, i.e. also a wall, emits a certain amount of heat energy as infrared radiation to the environment according to its absolute temperature and its radiation behaviour. All surfaces in a room are in permanent radiation exchange with each other. People also participate in this exchange when they enter the room. Since people in living spaces usually have a higher surface temperature than most other surfaces, they permanently lose heat, both through radiation and in contact with the room air through convection. If the temperature of a surface decreases, for example, because the surface belongs to an exterior wall that conducts heat outside in winter, the radiant power oriented towards the room also decreases.

Only radiant heaters can heat sections of the inner envelope surface in a differentiated manner so that they do not have any temperature differences between them or only have small temperature differences. The decisive factor for thermal comfort is the climate surrounding us in relation to the perceived temperature. In this context, the indoor climate is determined by the operative temperature, namely the mean value of the air and radiation temperature of the surfaces of the inner enveloping surface as well as the relative humidity and the air movement. The physical activity and clothing can be predefined for normal room use, so that only the data relevant for the room climate are included as variables for determining the comfort.

Two flying superheroes (in complete superhero regalia) “hold up” the ceiling which, by the way their shoulders are thrown to the task, is in immediate danger of falling on innocent bystanders below. A fan positioned to cause a bit of gentle cape fluttering would be a nice touch.

If money were no object, the superheroes would be mounted to a near-ceiling sized plane which, by way of several cam-driven lateral suspension lines, would gently bob up and down and side-to-side as the heroes struggle to balance the tremendous load in midair.

Imagine a very tall stack of empty cardboard boxes of many sizes, built so as to be precariously balanced, with decreasing box sizes all the way to the tippy top – a narrow Christmas tree shape.

Then, flip it upside down and mount it on the ceiling. The tops of some of the boxes might display “This Side Up” (perhaps fluorescent green or orange, lit from the bottom with black light) - clearly visible from the viewer’s vantage point below.

I like the idea of being below ground level and seeing what’s down there. This one is simple: the lower half of one large or several smaller root systems seems to penetrate down through the ceiling. Tap roots would be made of foam over a wire core; feeder roots would be made of wire. Lightweight, realistic, easily mounted and easily tweaked in-place.

A small camera is hooked up to a projector. The projector displays the camera image on the ceiling. The camera points straight down at the gallery floor below. Gallery visitors who look up at the ceiling may find themselves looking down at themselves.

Many variations designed to challenge the viewer’s spatial orientation/ perspective are possible: the camera could be positioned to shoot across the floor at ankle level, or set in a corner and rotated for a disorienting effect. My guess is that viewers will engage the piece by attempting to locate themselves in the image and/or locate the camera itself.

The bottom of a small rowboat (made of very lightweight material), the bottom halves of two oars and the bottom half of a fishing line float ball extend downward, out of the ceiling. A fishing line with a hook on the end dangles from the bottom of the float, and a fish, suspended in the air, seems to swim nearby.

I envision several clumps of translucent, polyethylene tubes –preferably ones which terminate at their bottoms with nicely rounded ends, hanging from the ceiling.

They would look neat filled with a small amount of soda water (which fluoresces) and lit from the bottom with a black light (mounted on the top of the center horizontal beam).
