This is a view of the LCD railway/tram street running in Locarno next to Lake Lugano, lake cruise boats can be seen to the right. The tram is number 3, one of 3 Ce2/2 railcars obtained from Tram Elettrici Mendrisiensi (TEM) in 1950

The LCD was a metre gauge railway that operated in the Lugano area. It ran northwards out of the city from a terminus at the Piazza Manzoni. The first 2 km to the depot at La Santa entailed street running and it was over this section the LCD also ran the local tram service. The tram service was withdrawn by the LCD in 1964 and in 1967 they cut back the railway operation from Piazza Manzoni to the Piazza Indipendza before the line closed completely in 1970. One of these railcars has been preserved.

I have taken my information from "Swiss Tram & Trolleybus Systems Past and Present" by Martin Fisher & Neil Wheelright. It is one of an excellent series of books published by Swiss Express Publications ISBN: 978-0-9926812-2-7

Sometime in the mid 90's while in the Chicago area, I found this former Santa Fe waycar obviously working for the South Shore. Don't remember where I shot it. CSS 10007 is former ATSF Ce-2 waycar #999486.

On 5/17/2015 Brent Michael found it on an abandoned siding in Shelbyville, Tenn.
