I almost tossed this picture because the color combination actually makes me feel ill. It's the only time something like that has happened in my entire life.

But because it is so extremely garish, I just had to edit and post it. I'll be doing a local exhibit at a coffee shop. Nothing official or big, but it is LGBTQ owned so I'm doing an exhibit from Mpls. Pride 2017. Should be interesting.

Taking this semester off will give me more time to just do some small showings, and making some progress to move out of the ccountry.

No .. . . no one is chasing me, something I've dreamed about for a long time. I'm looking at Malacca, Malaysia. I hear the cuisine is unique with the melange of ethnic groups in the city, and living by or on the ocean has been a dream of mine.

25th April 2013 at SOAS (Brunei Gallery), London WC1.

Part of SOAS Concert Series (free event).

CCountry: Western Sahara (Spanish resident). Style: Modern Sahrawi with other influences.

Lineup: Aziza Brahim (v/t'bal), Gonzalo Tascon (g).

Aziza Brahim was born in a refugee camp in Algeria (where much of the population of Western Sahara moved following the Moroccan invasion). As a child she studied in Cuba and now lives in Spain. Her music combining traditional rhythms and Western electric guitar has some similarities with the fusion music of Tuareg bands. She regularly performs with a six pece band, but this gig was just her and a guitarist.

10th January 2013 at Great Northern Railway Tavern, London N8.

Jazz at the Tavern, www.jazzinlondon.net/jazzatthetavern/.

CCountry: Britain. Style: Jazz - Modern.

Lineup: Henry Lowther (trumpet/flugelhorn), Jim Mullen (g), Dave Green (b), Stu Butterfield (d).

This group brings together four musicians active in numerous other groups on the British Jazz scene. Formed in 1999 as the Henry Lowther - Jim Mullen Quartet, they were still performing under that name when I first saw them in 2003 (as part of the late lamented Commuter Jazz series). Somewhere along the line they started billing themselves using a phrase Jim Mullen used one night to describe the group. I’ve photographed all four of them with other bands: Henry Lowther with Chris Biscoe/Profiles groups and Simon Spillett, Jim Mullen with a quartet of his own, Dave Green with Jimmy Hastings and Scott Hamilton, and Stu Butterfield with Chris Biscoe/Profiles groups. For these photos, click on the Tag of the name of the relevant musician. This was the first night of a new Jazz Club for which Stu Butterfield is one of the organisers (having been previously involved with Clubs at the Fiddler’s Elbow and King’s Head). The tunes they played were not originals, having been written by Ellington, Monk, Clifford Brown, Horace Silver and others.

I visited Uluru/Ayers Rock in January 2008. It was summertime there, and it was incredibly hot (it was 42C at 3.00 am!!) but also incredibly interesting. When I took this photo I was on an aboriginal tour, which I really enjoyed and highly recommend to anyone who travels there. Beautiful landscape, colors and people.

Must be plenty of stories that this old place can tell. I halfway can imagine Roy Rogers riding over the ridge on Trigger...

In the heart of the wine ccountry Chinchon relies on 3 things for its survival.

Its tourist trade,Its wine producing and the once-yearly Bullring which is set up in the Square and attracts locals from all over central Spain.

We asked for some wine with our meal and were provided with not one-but two flagons of local wine!

Thank goodness we had someone to drive us back to our hotel afterwards-armed with a few bottles of their wine!

2nd December 2013 at St Thomas’ Hospital (Central Hall), London SE1.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Lunchtime Performances (free event).

CCountry: Britain. Style: Samba & Bossa Nova.

Lineup: Rebeca Vallim (v), Marcelo Andrade (flute/soprano sax/tamborim), Paul Rumbol (g), Xavier Osmir (cajón/percussion).

This band was put together by Paul Rumbol and is made up of musicians regularly found on the London Brazilian scene. Osmir performs with the London School of Samba. I’ve taken photos of Vallim and Andrade with several different bands: Capital do Samba, Umpatacum, Maracatudo Mafuá and two Adriano Adewale groups (click on the tags of their names to find them).

In this photo: Rumbol plays a FRAME Works Guitar.
