I'm fairly sure this pavilion was originally constructed by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) in the 1930's. At least some of the other structures in the summit area were, and this one looks fairly similar. There's probably a plaque somewhere with this information, but I didn't catch it.
Columbus City Center Mall on February 18, 2009. Approximately two weeks before the building will be closed for good. Abandoned shopping mall. Dead mall. 1989-2009.
At our October meeting at Sulzer Library, Danny Bomben showed us the monitor that's one of the many medical items packed in his panniers as he goes about his job of Chicago Fire Department Paramedic - on a mountain bike! Between his bike and his partner's bike, they have all the equipment they would carry away from an ambulance. They keep it on their bikes and roll the bikes right into a building. They can get to the place they're needed in the downtown area much faster than an ambulance, truck or engine.
