To all the young men who served and to future generations that they might be reminded of our governments efforts to improve the status of the unemployed during the Great Depression of the 1930's
Also to the U.S. Army and the Department of Agriculture for the guidance they provided both in camp and in the field, and the Rush Springs Lions Club for its efforts in securing the Camp here.
These Camps were located throughout the United States with various functions to perform, such as: forestry, parks, and soil conservation.
This Camp was primarily soil conservation due to the nature of the soil in this area. Therefore the work performed here consisted of the terracing with rock-masonry outlets, ponds and restoring vegetation, all implemented to deter soil erosion.
The young me throughout the Corps were paid $30 per month with $25 of this being sent home. Food, work clothing and shelter along with medical, dental and education services were provided.
It would difficult for a young man not to have benefited fro this experience.
Established June 18, 1933 Closed July 20, 1942

Petroglyph Point at the national monument. Though not visible in this pictue, the lower area of the cliff is covered in petroglyphs. Before the Bureau of Reclamation drained the area for farming in the early 1900's, these cliffs were reached by canoe by Native Americans who inscribed petroglyphs in the rock. The original fencing here was built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) in 1937

This bridge was built across the I&M Canal at Willow Springs,IL circa 1934 bt the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). A few months after it's completion the wood railings and deck were set afire by vandals.
you certainly know what kind of great artists we are!
(ha! ha! ha! ... but you probably don't know how the word "artist" make me laugh!)
however... a few days ago i bought these old photos dating from the 1930's.
after a small intervention, the next step would be to stick them at the same place from where the picture has been taken.
... hmmm... for now, that's the idea...
