I spotted this Honda in the car park of a block of flats in SE London and, as I stopped to take a couple of photos, a lady came by on her way back from a trip to the shops.
We exchanged greetings and she said she was a near-neighbour of the owner. She told me it still gave him memories of good times, and that he was fairly insistent that it wasn't abandoned.
I'd like to give it the benefit of the doubt, but unfortunately this would leave me few places to put this photo, as a search for Flickr groups called 'not abandoned' didn't produce a single result.
It's a Honda CB550 Four, from about 1977-78.
I have only one memory of this particular model of bike, which would be from the same time. A friend had one and suggested a ride to the Blackheath tea hut, with me on the back. He saw a gap in the traffic and gassed it... and very nearly left me behind :O

Canon F-1n and long expired (pre-1990) ORWO NP-7, I shot this film at 50 iso and developed it in homemade D23 replenished for 9 minutes.
I'd been to my friend's shop before and it's just one of those places that lends itself to dramatic photos. On this visit, the sunlight was landing perfectly on a recently rebuilt Honda CB 550 and it only took a bit of shooting to get something worthwhile.

My CB550 cafe racer. Got it as a non running pile of junk. This is how it stands as of now.

Originally planned to be a highway connecting between the north shore and south shores of Long Island, this highway was never completed. The incomplete runoff area offers a great spot to take some photos on such a mild December day.
This is a 1978 CB550 cafe racer I've been hacking together over the last few years. Slow and steady progress keeping it rideable the whole time. I've been planning a modern front end swap for a few years now. Maybe I'll happen in 2016!
Actually, was taken on a wooden dock out by the water.

Having transformed this CB550 from a rat bike with an identity crisis to a hacked together cafe has been a long and fun journey. Just when you think your work is done with the modifications, the constant (and careful) maintenance schedule kicks in.
Notice the small puddle of gas forming right next to the kickstand. The wrapped exhaust header is also soaked in oil leaking from one of the head seals... both common problems that will require some time and attention.. both of which I've been a bit short on these days. I can't say for certain that ALL the mods are done, notice the impossibly placed rear brake lever in relation to the rear set that still needs to be sorted.
Close, but never done!
