Beach in a Cave.
On the Algarve Coast the erosion of the sandstone has created numerous caves, this one is so large that it has its own beach with a huge vent hole in the roof. The roof hole is caused by acid rain penetrating fault lines in the sandstone from above.

Qumran (Hebrew: קומראן; Arabic: خربة قمران Khirbet Qumran) is an archaeological site in the West Bank managed by Israel's Qumran National Park.[1] It is located on a dry plateau about 1.5 km (1 mi) from the northwestern shore of the Dead Sea, near the Israeli settlement and kibbutz of Kalya. The Hellenistic period settlement was constructed during the reign of John Hyrcanus, 134-104 BCE or somewhat later, and was occupied most of the time until it was destroyed by the Romans in 68 CE or shortly after. It is best known as the settlement nearest to the Qumran Caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were hidden, caves in the sheer desert cliffs and beneath, in the marl terrace. The principal excavations at Qumran were conducted by Roland de Vaux in the 1950s, though several later unearthings at the site have since been carried out. (Wikipedia)
Skjonghelleren is a 100 meter deep cave some 15 minutes drive from where I live. As you can see, the opening is pretty high. If people used to live in the gave is not proved, but it has obviously been an important shelter. Seal bones found in the cave is dated 30,000 years old. The seals have probably been taken there by their predators.
Fingal's Cave is a sea cave on the uninhabited island of Staffa, in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. The cave is made of huge basalt columns and is known for its natural acoustics. Approaching Staffa and Fingal’s Cave from the sea is quite an adventure, and capturing this shot as the boat was bobbing up and down was not a trivial task!

Batu Caves, complex of limestone grottoes in Peninsular Malaysia. The caves are one of the country’s biggest tourist attractions and are a place of pilgrimage for Tamil Hindus. They are named for the Sungai Batu (Batu River), which flows nearby, and are located 7 miles (13 km) north of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.
The caves were little-known except to local residents until 1878, when the American naturalist William Temple Hornaday revealed their existence to the wider world. K. Thamboosamy Pillay, a leader of the Tamil Hindu community in Malaya (as the region was then called), built a temple within the caves in 1891. It is said that he took inspiration from the similarity in shape of the cave entrance to the tip of the vel, or spear, traditionally wielded by the deity Murugan. Thaipusam, the Tamil Hindu festival devoted to Murugan, was first celebrated on the site in 1892 and is now a major event that attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims annually.
The Batu Caves are located within a high limestone outcropping. A colossal gold-painted statue of Murugan, made from reinforced concrete and 140 feet (42.7 metres) in height, stands near the base of a flight of 272 steps. As visitors climb the steps, they are frequently accosted by macaques begging aggressively for food. At the top of the steps is the entrance to the largest cave, called Cathedral Cave or Temple Cave. Within it is the largest of several temples on the site. At a lower level on the flight of steps is Dark Cave, which is sometimes closed to visitors. Other caves lie still closer to the base of the steps. Ramayana Cave has an entrance marked with a statue of the monkey god Hanuman, hero of the Indian epic poem Ramayana. The cave itself is lined with dioramas depicting scenes from the epic. The Cave Villa, which includes Art Gallery Cave and Museum Cave, features more paintings and statues.

The Buchan Caves are a group of limestone caves that include the Royal Cave and the Fairy Cave, located south-west of Buchan, in the East Gippsland region of the Australian state of Victoria. They have a total length of between 3 and 4 kilometres (1.9 and 2.5 mi), and six entrances.[2]
The Buchan Cave Reserve has been transferred back to the Gunaikurnai Nation and is jointly managed with the state.
The limestone rock at Buchan was laid down during the Devonian period about 300 – 400 million years ago. At the time, the sea covered this area of East Gippsland which was alive with shellfish and coral. Their remains were deposited in layers and over the years compacted to form limestone. The caves were formed by solution of the limestone.
For several years we were trying to reach these caves and finally in 2019 we done it!

Smoo Cave is a large combined sea cave and freshwater cave in Durness in Sutherland, Highland, Scotland.
Went for a wander at Caves Beach yesterday with a couple of mates. The main cave is a substantial structure & easy enough to navigate at low tide. It feels ancient. This is a view from inside it. There are a few narrow openings that lead through to a smaller beach with many scattered "caves" and openings in the rocks, which adds to the sense that this is a prehistoric place.
Naturally, I wandered exploring them.
While exploring a few of the narrower gaps in the rock, I found one that eventually opened out enough to stand up in, almost pitch black deep under the rock cliff. I stayed there. Quietly. After a few minutes, I could hear the others calling out "are you in there", "where are you". I didn’t respond. Like a predator hunting his prey. Eventually I heard someone crawling through one of the gaps. My predator senses came alive. Light shifted slightly. A silhouette appeared. At this point, instinct took over and I sprang, announcing my presence at full volume "YAHHHHHHH".
Anthony reacted exactly as you would hope. There was some jumping. Some shouting. And a thump which I assume was his head hitting the roof 😂 After I stopped laughing, which probably took longer than it should have, I checked that he was okay. He was. Well enough to offer several thoughtfully chosen expletives. He then took about ten minutes to recover, both physically and emotionally. And a change of clothes 😜. Hard to beat a good old fashioned jump out at someone and shout BOO for laugh.
We later regrouped at the pub for burgers and beer, where the incident was reviewed in detail. I am now waiting for the inevitable retaliation. Apparently this is how these things work with mates.
Hope everyone’s having a good weekend — thanks for stopping by, and for the comments. Always appreciated.
The Batu Caves are limestone caves around 15 kilometers north of the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur and are home to several Hindu temples. Although the caves had long been known to the local tribes, they did not become famous until 1878 by the American William Temple Hornaday.
Every year at the end of January or beginning of February, the Batu Caves become the focal point of the Hindu "Thaipusam" festival with its sometimes masochistic rites.

Known as the "secret cave", this cave is not really a secret, but it is very difficult to get to on foot. Timing is key - it can only be accessed at low tide. There are also some tough climbs on the way, it's definitely not accessible on foot to everyone.
The Grjótagjá Cave.. Just for all those who love Game of Thrones. That's the cave where Jon Snow sealed his deal with Ygritte 😉
