2017 Rose Parade in Pasadena, California

From The Mercury News: 1st Cavalry Division Horse Cavalry Detachment: Fort Hood, Texas. This all-volunteer group founded in 1972 and assembled from active service members. It is intended to remind all of the important legacy of the cavalry in our American military past. The riders will be in “campaign uniforms,” typical of the 1880s. The steeds are American saddle horses and will be wearing McClellan saddles. The group also represents the U.S. Army in military and civic ceremonies, parades and demonstrations. It has been at three presidential inaugurations, several Tournament of Roses parades and the 1984 World’s Fair. There will also be two Belgium draft mules pulling a supply cart.

Texas A&M's Corps of Cadets Special Unit Parsons Mounted Cavalry

Sport bike racing at Blackhawk Farms Raceway.

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment is comprised of The Life Guards and the Blues and Royals, two of the oldest Regiments in the British Army.

They date back to the 1600's and have been the Sovereign's personal bodyguard ever since. Every year the Regiment takes part in a number of state ceremonial occasions such as The Queen's Birthday Parade and the State Opening of Parliament.

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment employs approximately 240 Cavalry Black horses, 14 Greys and 4 Drum horses.

The Army Horse Purchasing Commission purchases the Black and Grey horses annually in Southern Ireland. Their breeding is normally ¾ Irish Draught and ¼ Thoroughbred, ideally standing over 16:2 hands in height with plenty of bone and substance.

This is necessary when one considers that the weight of soldiers in state kit and the horse furniture is nearly 20 stone.

Passing Buckingham Palace on the day after the Queen's death

OK...this one is for me. I know that it is pretty far-removed from the birds and flowers you usually see here. What I photograph for me, and what I do for Flickr are often vastly different.

This photo of the small two inch Roman was originally made in July of 2006 for an eBay auction. It hasn't been seen since. Today I did some current technology processing, and made a decent image. Hope you enjoy...but in any case I wanted to show something different.

The Grant Memorial, begun in 1902 as the largest ever commissioned by Congress at the time, was created by sculptor Henry Merwin Shrady and architect William Pearce Casey. Sculptor Edmund Amateis assisted Shrady as the monument neared completion in 1921. Shrady spent 20 years of his life working on the memorial and died, stressed and overworked, two weeks before its dedication in 1922. The platform for the monument, made of Vermont marble, is 252 feet (77 m) long and 71 feet (22 m) wide and is divided into three sections. The tall, middle section features a 10,700 pound, 17-foot-2-inch (5.2 m) high equestrian statue depicting Grant aboard his war horse Cincinnati on a 22 1/2-foot high marble pedestal. Grant is flanked, on either side, by fighting Union Artillery and Cavalry groups. Surrounding the main pedestal are four shorter pedestals, each supporting a bronze lion in repose guarding both the United States flag and the flags of the Army. The memorial was the largest bronze sculpture cast in the United States at that time.

The Cavalry Group depicts a color squad consisting of seven cavalrymen charging into battle. The horse on the right has fallen and the rider, modeled after Shrady himself, is moments from being trampled by the onrushing horses.

Pintura del artista pintor Ernest Descals que quiere expresar el movimiento del personaje preparado con su arco y sus flechas, cabalgando sobre el llamado mar de hierba. The 2015 Lord Mayor's Show

The Winged Cuirassiers is is one of the three Life Guard Cavalry Regiment of Corrington, and serves as protectors of the Crown, both as lifeguards and as extended arms of the regent.

The Winged Cuirassiers recruit solely from gentlemen and part of their service time consists of classical education. Often, former cuirassiers will go on to become prominent public servants.

As a military unit, the Winged Cuirassiers is a heavy cavalry regiment, and their charge is a fearsome sight to behold, and few can stand the onslaught of heavily armed and armoured men on heavy destriers reminiscent of the age of knights in full armour.

Armed with heavy lances doubling as great battle axes, greatswords, and carbines, they are at home on the charge. Nonetheless, these soldiers are also trained and able to fight as heavy infantry when called upon.

The trim on this unidentified soldier's uniform has been tinted yellow identifying him as a member of the cavalry. In addition, the photographer has tinted the decorative frame around the portrait with red and blue ink to form a pair of patriotic flags.

Carte de visite by George G. Rockwood of New York City. A cavalryman sits astride a horse with dappled flank and legs in front of stone building. His light jacket, likely gray, suggests he may have served in one of New York's state militia regiments.

Photographer George Gardner Rockwood (1832-1911) claimed to have produced the first carte de visite in the United States. He is best known for his portraits of notable men and women in the latter 19th century.
