E' il segno di proprietà sulle case della "scola dei bombardieri" sorta nel 1500. Il nome che all'inizio designava gli archibugieri fu poi conservato semplicemente per le guardie di città.

Sv.Foška živjela je prije 1700 godina, slavi se kao mučenica, pogubljena je u Rimu, u dobi od 15 godina, jer se nije željela odreći kršćanstva. Dirljiva je zbirka predmeta u crkvi i blizu nje, ostavljenih u znak zahvalnosti bolesnika koji su ozdravili nakon molitve za pomoć upućene sv.Foški.
A three-naval edifice of the basilical type with three inscribed apses from the end of the eleventh century. During the course of time the church underwent a Barroque transformation. A large porch (lopica) was added, the largest in Istria.
It is a place of pilgrimage even nowadays, especially first Sunday after February 13th, when the Catholic church celebrates St.Fosca. St.Fosca lived 1700 years ago, she is celebrated as martyr. She was executed in Rome, because she didn't want to denial her Christianity. She was 15 years old. It is touching collection of objects in the church and near the church, left by the sick people who were cured after they prayed st.Fosca for help.
Saint Roch was a Catholic saint, a confessor. He is a patron saint of dogs, falsely accused people, bachelors, and several other things.
I assume that there is a linkage to shepherds here hence the statute to Saint Roch.

Celebrating the Canonization today, October 21, 2012, of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, the first Native American Saint, by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
This is a reworking of an image I took and uploaded back in June, 2010. I thought it appropriate to re-visit it for her Canonization. This statue stands outside of Our Lady of Loretto Roman Catholic Church in the beautiful Hudson River town of Cold Spring, New York. She ia seen here holding a wooden cross, a symbol commonly associated with her. She is a Patron Saint of the Environment and Ecology, as is St. Francis of Assisi. Her Feast Day is July 14th. As retired Park Ranger and Environmental Educator, I feel an affinity for this devout lady.

A beautiful statue of Saint Anthony of Padua in the Sacred Heart Chapel of St. Mark R.C. Church, my parish in Brooklyn, New York. He is shown with three of the attributes or symbols you see here; the Infant Jesus, a book and a Lily. Although born in Lisbon, his devotional work was in and around Padua, Italy. He is the Patron Saint of both Lisbon and Padua, as well as lost items, the poor and travelers. He was canonized in less than a year after his death in 1231, at the age of 36. In 1946, he was declared a "Doctor of the Church." His Feastday is June 13th.

This is a historic statue of St. John of Nepomuk, located on a bridge over the River Vechte near Schöppingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
The stone sculpture dates back to 1937 and stands along the L570 road, close to the historic Brüningmühle, between the towns of Schöppingen and Heek.
St. John of Nepomuk is traditionally regarded as the patron saint of the seal of confession and is often depicted on bridges and near rivers, symbolizing protection against floods and misfortune.
Saint Kateri Tekakwitha (pronounced [ˈɡaderi deɡaˈɡwita] in Mohawk), given the name Tekakwitha, baptized as Catherine and informally known as Lily of the Mohawks (1656 – April 17, 1680), is a Roman Catholic saint who was an Algonquin–Mohawk laywoman. Born in the Mohawk village of Ossernenon, on the south side of the Mohawk River, she contracted smallpox in an epidemic; her family died and her face was scarred. She converted to Roman Catholicism at age nineteen, when she was renamed Kateri, baptized in honor of Saint Catherine of Siena. Refusing to marry, she left her village and moved for the remaining 5 years of her life to the Jesuit mission village of Kahnawake, south of Montreal in New France, now Canada.
Tekakwitha took a devout vow of perpetual virginity. Upon her death at the age of 24, witnesses said that minutes later her scars vanished and her face appeared radiant and beautiful. Known for her virtue of chastity and mortification of the flesh, as well as being shunned by some of her tribe for her religious conversion to Catholicism, she is the fourth Native American to be venerated in the Roman Catholic Church and the first to be canonized.[5]
Under the pontificate of Pope John Paul II, she was beatified in 1980 and canonized by Pope Benedict XVI at Saint Peter's Basilica on 21 October 2012. Various miracles and supernatural events are attributed to her intercession.

A sorrowful Madonna, her gaze weighted with centuries of devotion and longing, framed by a celestial halo of faith. This appears to be a representation of Our Lady of Sorrows (Mater Dolorosa), a depiction of the Virgin Mary in mourning, often seen in Spanish and Latin American religious art. I photographed this statue at a small local museum in Temecula, California. For this composition, I cropped the image to highlight the portrait and substituted a busy background with a textured layer from my personal collection.

At Saint Patrick's Cathedral, NYC. Inside the casket is a wax statue within which repose her skeletal remains. Maria Goretti is an Italian virgin-martyr of the Roman Catholic Church. She is one of the youngest canonized saints. She is also called the saint of Great Mercy for forgiving her assailant and would be rapist Alessandro. Alessandro forced himself upon Maria in an attempt to rape her. Though she prevented him from violating her, Alessandro brutally stabbed her 14 times. Maria died the next day in the midst of horrendous infection brought on by her lacerations. Her last words were, “I forgive Alessandro Serenelli … and I want him with me in heaven forever.”

On Porto’s bustling Praça da Liberdade, the Igreja de Santo António dos Congregados commands attention with its striking Baroque Revival façade adorned in brilliant blue-and-white azulejos. Originally built in the 17th century on the site of a medieval chapel, the church was expanded and decorated in the 19th and 20th centuries, blending architectural layers that tell the city’s evolving story. The tiled panels depict scenes from the life of Saint Anthony, lending both devotion and artistry to the public square. Framed here against traffic, pedestrians, and neighboring Belle Époque buildings, the church acts as a counterpoint between sacred history and the modern rhythm of Porto’s streets. Its proximity to São Bento Station makes it one of the first sights greeting new arrivals. Would you pause to admire the tiles, or let the city’s energy sweep you along?
When the Roman soldier returned to apologise for not respecting their pre-agreed limits, Saint Seb actually asked for more, making him the patron saint of gays who like rough trade and painful indulgences, particularly prayed to by those who are pushy bottoms.
I believe, however, that St Seb deserves to be reclaimed by all of us who have been imposed upon at some time and were far too polite to say no.
St. Mary Magdalene
Apostle to the Apostles (First Century)
Mary Magdalene was one of the original Galilean disciples
of Jesus and the most eminent among the many women who
followed in his itinerant ministry. Little can be said about her
origins; she is characterized simply as a “woman from whom
seven demons had gone out.” There is no scriptural basis for
the later tradition that depicted her as a penitent prostitute.
The Gospels name her among the women who followed Jesus
to Golgotha and there witnessed his passion and death. While
all the male disciples fled, it was these women who remained
faithful to the end. It was also they who went to his tomb on
the third day hoping to anoint his body.
Instead they found an empty tomb, guarded by an angel
who revealed the news that Jesus was risen. The women were
charged to tell the disciples to meet the Lord back in Galilee.
In the Gospels of John and Matthew (and the longer ending
of Mark), Mary actually sees the Risen Lord. According to
John, Mary stood weeping outside the tomb when she saw
Jesus, though without recognizing him. When he addresses
her with a single word, “Mary,” she calls out, “Rabboni!
Teacher.” He instructs her to go to the disciples and tell them,
“I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God
and your God.”
It was Mary Magdalene, the faithful disciple, who first pro-
claimed the good news to the Twelve. Thus she has often been
called the “Apostle to the Apostles.” Her feast is on July 22.

During our day in port at Marseille, France, Mike and I set off to take in some of the local sights. Among them was Abbaye Saint-Victor (Saint Victor Abbey) and its centuries-old crypt.
The crypt features a number of chapels, including the Chapel of Isarn. The far side of the chapel, opposite the entrance and the tombstone of Abbe Isarn (Abbot Isarnus), has large niches containing two sarcophagi. A few details on the sarcophagus shown here, which is that of Saint Eusebia:

This vessel is said to have come from the cemetery of the nearby Chapel of Paradise, no longer standing. A bust of the original occupant, whose clothing indicates senatorial rank, appears in a central clipeus, below which we see Jonah being vomited from the belly of the whale onto dry land. Two strigilated panels separate the central images from those at each end, which refer simultaneously to Moses and Saint Peter. In the image to the left, this dual meaning has to do with the miraculous water drunk by the people of Israel and with Christ's militia, while the one to the right should be understood as portraying the receiving of the Old Law and the New Testament.
The accompanying 6th-century epitaph reads: ''Here rests in peace St. Eusebia, abbess and servant of God. She lived in the world until her fourteenth year, and when she was chosen by God she served in the nunnery of Saint Cyr for fifty years. She departed this life the day before the calends of October [September 30], in the sixth year of the convocation.''

Father Maximilian Kolbe, a Poish Saint. Maximilian Kolbe was born in Poland on January 8, 1894. The two crowns on the right recall his vision of Mary, who appeared to him when he was a child and offered him the choice of the red crown of martyrdom or the white crown of purity - but he chose both and later entered the religious life and became a Jesuit priest, ministering to Christians and Jews alike.
Maximilian was arrested by Nazi forces and put in prison Feb. 17, 1941. On May 28, 1941 he was transferred to Auschwitz, Poland and branded prisoner 16670 He was beaten many times. He ministered to other prisoners and said mass using smuggled bread and wine. In July 1941, there was an escape from the camp. When a prisoner escapes, ten other prisoners are killed. The guards chose Francis Gajowniczek, a married man with young children to die for the escape. Maximilian volunteered to take his place in the starvation bunker. Maximilian died as he had wished, in service to others.

Maximilian Kolbe’s feast day is August 14. He is the patron saint of prisoners.

O St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph, assist me with your powerful intercession, and obtain for me all spiritual blessings through your foster Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord, so that, having engaged your heavenly power, I may offer you my thanksgiving and homage.
O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you with Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near to your heart.
