Friday (February 24): “Fasting for the kingdom of God…”
Scripture: Matthew 9:14-15
14 Then the disciples of John came to HIM, saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?" 15 And Jesus said to them, "Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come, when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
MEDITATION
“What kind of fasting is pleasing to God? Fasting can be done for a variety of reasons - to gain freedom from some bad habit, addiction, or vice, to share in the suffering of those who go without, or to grow in our hunger for God and for the things of heaven. Basil the Great wrote: "Take heed that you do not make fasting to consists only in abstinence from meats. True fasting is to refrain from vice. Shred to pieces all your unjust contracts. Pardon your neighbors. Forgive them their trespasses." Do you hunger to know God more, to grow in HIS holiness, and to live the abundant life of grace HE offers you?”
PRAYER
"Come Lord, work upon us, set us on fire and clasp us close, be fragrant to us, draw us to YOUR loveliness, let us #Love, let us run to YOU." (Prayer of St. Augustine)

MEDITATION
“…The Lord loves justice and goodness and HE hates every form of wickedness and sin. HE wants to set us free from our unruly desires and sinful habits, so that we can choose to live each day in the peace, joy, and righteousness of HIS Holy Spirit (Romans 14: 17). To renounce sin is to turn away from what is harmful and destructive for our minds and hearts, and our very lives. As HIS followers we must love and respect HIS commandments and hate every form of sin. Do you love and revere the commands of the Lord?”
PRAYER

MEDITATION
“Who can claim authority and power over life and death itself? Jesus not only made such a claim, HE showed God's power to heal and restore people to wholeness of life. HE also showed the mercy of God by releasing people from their burden of sin and guilt.
“…Jesus states that to accept HIM is Life - a Life of abundant Peace and Joy with God. But if we reject HIM, then we freely choose for death - an endless separation with an all-loving and merciful God. Do you want the abundant Life which Jesus offers? Believe in HIM, the living Word of God, who became a man for our sake and our salvation, and reject whatever is false and contrary to the Gospel - the good news HE came to give us.”
PRAYER

“Whoever drinks the water that I shall give will never thirst…” John 4:14
WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
God’s gifts are abundant, life-giving, and eternal. Turn to HIM for this Living Water in the sacraments. Trust in HIM.
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
- Trust HIM to provide.
- Turned to HIM when I am thirsty and I need.
PRAYER
"Lord Jesus, my soul thirsts for YOU. Fill me with YOUR Holy Spirit that I may always find joy in YOUR presence and take delight in doing YOUR will."

My #Art and #LECTIODIVINA Reflection for today’s (1/22/23) readings from Matthew 4:12-23 & Psalm 27
“…the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death #light has arisen.” Matthew 4:16
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear?” Psalm 27
WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
Jesus came for the people who sat in darkness, and HE is the great light for us to turn to. Each person who was called by HIM left they were doing and followed HIM at once.
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
Jesus is my light! Continue to turn to HIM daily as my light. HE has called me out of my darkness and into HIS wonderful light! Remember the darkness I was once in before turning to HIM, and be thankful each day for having the grace to turn to HIM and have HIM in my life.
PRAYER
"Lord Jesus, YOUR ways are life and light! Let YOUR Word penetrate my heart and transform my mind that I may see YOUR power and glory. Help me to choose YOUR ways and to do what is pleasing to YOU."

The Lord Jesus approaches each one of us with the same probing question, "Do you really want to be healed - to be forgiven, set free from guilt and sin, from uncontrollable anger and other disordered passions, and from hurtful desires and addictions.
“The first essential step towards freedom and #healing is the Desire for change. If we are content to stay as we are, then no amount of coaxing will change us. The Lord will not refuse anyone who sincerely asks for HIS Pardon, Mercy, and Healing.”

MEDITATION
“…The cup HE had in mind was a cup of sacrificial service and death to self - even death on a cross. What kind of cup might the Lord Jesus have in mind for each one of us who are HIS followers? For some disciples such a cup will entail physical suffering and the painful struggle of martyrdom - the readiness to die for one's faith in Christ. But for many followers of Jesus Christ, it entails the long routine of the Christian life, with all its daily sacrifices, disappointments, set-backs, struggles, and temptations. A disciple must be ready to lay down his or her life in martyrdom for Christ and be ready to lay it down each and every day in the little and big sacrifices required as well…”
PRAYER
"Lord Jesus, make me a servant of Love for YOUR kingdom, that I may seek to serve rather than be served. Inflame my heart with YOUR Love that I may give Generously and serve others Joyfully for YOUR sake."

My #Art and #LECTIODIVINA Reflection for today’s (2/26/23) Gospel reading - Matthew 4:1-11
“…Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil…” Matthew 4:1
WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
Jesus was tempted by the devil, just as we are tempted, by pride, possessions, and pleasures. HE is our example of how to stay strong and subvert the evil one.
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
- Focus on every Word that comes from God, read scripture daily and Listen to HIM.
- Do not put the Lord to the test, Trust and Follow.
- Worship and serve HIM, Obedience and Love.
- Remember to call on the Holy Spirit for guidance in time of weakness.
PRAYER
"Lord Jesus, YOUR word is life and joy for me. Fill me with YOUR Holy Spirit that I may have the strength and courage to embrace YOUR will in all things and to renounce whatever is contrary to it."

“You are the salt of the earth and LIGHT of the world…” from Matthew 5:13-16
WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
Be a good Christian, by following my example, and doing good for others. Then your LIGHT will shine for all to see, and you will be “glorifying me, your Heavenly Father.”
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
- Glorify God, each day, by thinking of others and performing good deeds.
- Let my LIGHT shine – All for the glory of God.
- Be a good Christian witness, for God’s glory, and not my own.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to shine YOUR LIGHT in this dark world. Help me to be the Salt of the earth, the LIGHT of the world, YOUR Hands and Feet. Help me to be a good #Christian witness all for YOUR glory and not my own.

“…God knows our sinfulness and weaknesses better than we do - and HE assures us of HIS love, mercy, and help. That is why HE freely gives us HIS power, strength, and gifts so that we may not lack anything we need to do HIS will and to live as HIS sons and daughters (2 Peter 1:3). Do you want to grow in your love for God and for your neighbor? Ask the Holy Spirit to purify and transform you in the image of the Father that you may walk in the joy and freedom of the Gospel.”
PRAYER
