LBN (Lynds Catalog of Bright Nebulae) 782, a bright reflection nebula located in a very dusty region of the constellation Taurus glows blue in the center right of this image taken at Grand Mesa Observatory over multiple nights in early November 2019.

Part of LBN 782 is categorized as bright nebula because within its structure there is an area of luminous nebulosity reflecting light from bright stars nearby. Additionally, there are Barnard objects in this wide field of view. These are dark nebula, such as Barnard 7, which is the dark nebula around the bright blue LBN 782. Another interesting object is the very distant IC 359, the white spiral structure just left of center, which is a distant spiral galaxy some 183 million light years away from Earth. For reference, the blue star in the middle of this image, 41 Tauri, is estimated to be around 420 light years away, which is about the same distance as LBN 782, estimated to be about 400 light years distant.

I was a massive fan of the V-19 when it first appeared on the Tarkovsky animated show and I always wanted to build my own working version in LEGO.

Although my previous attempt at this ship was quite popular and well received, I was never quite content with it.

After rewatching the Clone Wars show ahead of the release of season 7, the flaws in my model flaws seemed even more apparent; mainly that it was way out of scale compared to the jedi interceptors.

I started again from scratch working around a new mechanism to fold the central wing. The result is a much more reliable and sturdy attachment that clicks into place thanks to the technic rotation joint. It can even balance on the central wing which would be unthinkable of the previous version!

I discovered a fun new technique to create the striped paint scheme running down the edges of the wings. I think they look a lot more refined compared to the previous attempt now that they are entirely SNOT.

All in all a huge improvement on the original, I hope you agree!

so to speak, anyway. i cut out and stamped new labels for my card catalog in bright happy colors that just happen to be my favorites (orange, red, green and yellow). i've been meaning to do this for some time. for those who might be curious, i keep art and sewing supplies in my card catalog. no, the bars do not get in the way. also, i got it a community college auction years ago. good luck finding one (that's aimed at those who ask everytime they see a photo of it! heh.)!

Welcome to Day 6 of Technique Week! Yes, I am aware that I am posting this on day 8, but hey, better late than never.

Today's technique is a circle! :D Specifically one using curved 4x4x2 quarter round fences. First, stack a 1x2 plate on top of a 1x2 plate with 2 vertical clips, then a 1x2 cheese slope on top of that. Do that 20 times and attach all of those to the bars of the curved fence pieces to form a 20-sided shape, which is pretty much a circle. To make the circle taller, you don't need more fence pieces; you just need to replace the 1x2 plates with longer plates. You will need more cheese slopes though.

I think this may have applications for sci-fi, especially large sci-fi, and seeing as SHIPtember isn't too far off, this may prove useful soon...

If you're interested in similar techniques, check out Halhi's well technique, which works by using a minifigure life saver and 1x1 plates with horizontal clips. You can also adapt that technique to get a slightly larger circle using technic steering wheels.

Day 7 is coming soon!

Throwing out the high (C855), and throwing out the low (C415), both of which were specialty models, Alco’s entire catalog of Century-series locomotives is represented in this photo of part of Conrail's Collinwood, Ohio dead line, with an RSD5 thrown in for good measure. From left (most distant) to right are an ex-PC C628, an ex-PC RSD5, a C430 and a C630 from the Reading, a C425 and a C636 from the Penn Central, a former Lehigh and Hudson River C420, and a C424 from the Erie Lackawanna.

The Kaiser-Frazer Corporation was famous for their many novelties and progressive design. Like this yellow 4-door convertible: Frazer was the only American car manufacturer which offered such a postwar feature. It was a novelty. Engineers John Widman and Ralph Isbrandt were responsible for realizing this idea. A 4-door Kaiser convertible was also produced (in smaller numbers).

Also a 4-door hardtop sedan was a new body type (with nylon covered roof).

Despite all these efforts Frazer sale numbers dropped down in 1951.

For model year 1952 Frazer disappeared from the K-F Corp. catalogs.
