Long time ago, when living in Scotland, a favourite place where to have a trip to enjoy a very special view, even if the weather was not great.
After 2 agonizing years we are finally off to Portugal once again ... I bring this photo forward from a previous trip to head up my photostream until our return. It will be good to see Rosa's family after all this time. Wish us safe travels if you might - I shall catch up with all of your fine photography on our return. Cheers, Michael

It was a good test of my cameras ability to withstand rain ... and it passed the test with aplomb. I took a number of photos (see first comment box) but the one above is my personal favourite of the day. There is something about the irony of the message embedded in the graffiti and the position of his umbrella and the 'don't walk' signal. Even the leaping jaguar on his bag seems to fit. Cheers!

'Enigma'
Yes, and that.
We are many things
And not others.
Our caste, our genes, experiences
A mystery to ourselves
Painted false colours in reminisces
And some forget to be conscious
And prefer the dullness of
Satiation of eye and ear
Until death closes them.
To live is pain and joy and beauty
And grief and light and the dark.
Slivers of truth were meant to
Mark purpose and make it
Worth the effort.
To decorate our essence.
Who can extract a man from his extremes
When he thinks he is right?
Who can extract a man
From his vices
When his vices speak loudest?
Who can save a nation
From its ruin
Whilst the few wield their
Dire damages
On the many who march in stupid file
To another brink.
I am at times vortex, my anger spinning
Until it plays out
I am at other times friend,
Able to forgive as I have been forgiven.
May I always be conscious.

This little caste is an important part of the history of the Netherlands.
Now it is a hotel for children who have a difficult time and can be for a view days a knight, prins, prince, king or queen to forget the troubles.
The place of women in Sikhism
Amritsar (India) - Sikhism does not recognize castes and advocates equality between men and women. The birth of a girl is not considered a curse, they do not have to pay a dowry when they get married and if divorce is not allowed, the widow has the right to remarry.
They are encouraged to start and run businesses and even to "command armies in times of war". The sacred texts grant them the right to participate equally with men in all worship activities.
That's the theory. In practice, it's a different story, especially in religious practice where reality contradicts the sacred texts. One event – among many others – that occurred in 2003 hit the headlines and continues to pit conservative and liberal Sikhs against each other. Two Sikh women residing in Britain, referring to the sacred texts, had attempted to take part in an important night ritual at the Amritsar temple. This had triggered the anger of the men who had violently opposed the women who had had to give up.
The Mahatma did not have time to see how his ideas turned out to be foreign in his country. India will begin to develop large-scale industrial production, forgetting about the hand spinning wheel. He would create an atomic bomb, which Gandhi considered the "weapon of hell", it could not even occur to him that the Indians would begin to develop it. Social stratification and caste prejudices have not gone away, there is no sarvodaya in India, and it is unlikely that there will ever be. Mahatma remained statues in the squares, pages of history books. Of course, few dispute Gandhi's role in the national liberation movement. But the naive utopianism of his ideas is clear to many today.
This little caste has a long history. During the Second World War, it served to shelter the Polish presidency in exile (November 1939 - June 1940). Then from 1943 to August 1944 it was used by the officers of the German Kriegsmarine.

The Southern Meat Ant (Iridomyrmex purpureus) is endemic to Australia. It was described by British entomologist Frederick Smith in 1858. It is among the best-known species of ant found throughout mainland Australia. Its enormous distribution, aggression and ecological importance have made this ant a dominant species. It is characterised by its dark-bluish body and red head. It is a medium to large species; workers and males are approximately the same sizes at 6–7 mm and 8 mm, respectively. The queens are the largest and appear mostly black, measuring 12.7 mm. The iridescence in workers ranges from green or blue to plain green and purple, varying in different body parts and castes. Meat ants inhabit open and warm areas in large, oval-shaped mounds that are accompanied by many entrance holes. The nest area is always cleared of vegetation and covered with materials including gravel, pebbles and dead vegetation. They are also polydomous, where a colony may be established in a series of satellite nests connected by well-defined paths and trails. Satellite nests are constructed away from the main nest and nearby areas with valuable food sources so workers can exploit them.
Queens mate with a single male and colonies may have more than one queen until the workers arrive, where they both exhibit antagonism. It takes around one or two months for an individual egg to develop into an adult. Colonies range in size, varying between 11,000 individuals to over 300,000. The meat ant is a diurnal species (active throughout most of the day), especially when it is warm. It forages on trees and collects sweet substances such as honeydew and nectar, and also captures insects or collects the remains of animals. A number of predators eat these ants, including the short-beaked echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus), numerous species of birds, blind snakes and spiders. Meat ants establish territorial borders with neighbouring colonies and solve disputes through ritualised fighting.
Meat ants play an important role in both the environment and for humans. A single nest is capable of dispersing over 300,000 plant seeds; moreover, meat ants have formed symbiotic relationships with many insects. This ant may be used as a form of pest control to kill the cane toad, an invasive species. They can also help farmers to remove animal carcasses by consuming and reducing them to bones in a matter of weeks.

I was also instructed in the Double Knowledge - that is, I was instructed in what the people, on the whole, believed, and then I was instructed in what the intellectuals were expected to know. Sometimes there was a surprising discrepancy between the two. For example, the population as a whole, the castes below the High Castes, were encouraged to believe that their world was a broad, flat disk. Perhaps this was to discourage them from exploration or to develop in them a habit of relying on commonsense prejudices something of a social control device.
On the other hand, the High Castes, specifically the Warriors, Builders, Scribes, Initiates, and Physicians, were told the truth in such matters, perhaps because it was thought they would eventually determine it for themselves, from observations such as the shadow of their planet on one or another of Gor's three small moons during eclipses, the phenomenon of sighting the tops of distant objects first, and the fact that certain stars could not be seen from certain geographical positions; if the planet had been flat, precisely the same set of stars would have been observable from every position on its surface.
I wondered, however, if the Second Knowledge, that of the intellectuals, might not be as carefully tailored to preclude inquiry on their level as the First Knowledge apparently was to preclude inquiry on the level of the Lower Castes. I would guess that there is a Third Knowledge, that reserved to the Priest-Kings.

The Château de Chambord in Chambord, Centre-Val de Loire, France, is one of the most recognisable châteaux in the world because of its very distinctive French Renaissance architecture, which blends traditional French medieval forms with classical Renaissance structures. The building was constructed by the king of France, Francis I.
Chambord is the largest château in the Loire Valley; it was built to serve as a hunting lodge for Francis I, who maintained his royal residences at the Château de Blois and Amboise. The original design of the château is attributed to the Tuscan architect Domenico da Cortona; Leonardo da Vinci may have also influenced the design.
Leeuwesteijn caste is one of the oldest estates of the city Vught. In 1753, there was a simple country house built by the family of Heurn. In 1794 the surrender of Den Bosch to here is the French General Pichegru. In 1899, a new, much larger villa built by the family van Rijckevorsel. Later, the house inhabited by the families M and van Lanschot l the Lochte, located in the Reeburg park. This park was laid out around the Huize Reeburg from 1822, which unfortunately was demolished in 1952. That fate is fortunately spared Leeuwesteijn castle. The family van Beuningen Fentener van Vlissingen let the House remodel in 1937 to the present castle-like building. White Castle impresses by the big tower with black Spire and the stepped gable who both beautifully mirroring in the pond Canal. After the conversion they donate it to the municipality of the city Vught that there the Town Hall in establishes. Also the surrounding park Reeburg is restored so the surroundings is nice too. Unfortunately, right on the park lays the busy A2 highway.
